We went kayaking and canoeing on the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area for the first time during the summer. Man, it was a great experience! The water was so clear in some areas that you can see the bottom of the river. We enjoyed the beauty and the tranquility of the river. Be sure to bring sandwiches and drinks. Wear comfortable attire and water shoes. Highly recommended!!

Time to stop and smell the roses and take in God's beauty. Rocks and water and trees and waterfalls and..... It goes on and on. Love it!

This is a great place to visit for those who like the outdoors. However be careful with younger children as some of the trails can be steep. If hiking Mt. Tamany on the NJ side, there is plenty of parking on the east bound side of I-80 along with the very small parking lot on the west bound side that is the last exit before the toll bridge. The Mt. Tamany trail is the steepest and very rewarding trail as you get many views of the river and gap from a couple of vistas along the way. The quickest way to get to Sunfish Pond is arguably the Appalachian Trail at the Dunnfield Creek access point. All of the trails are well maintained and the creek looks nice after a good rainy night. On the PA side there are plenty of trails to get to the top of Mt. Minsi. Parking is near the Deer Head Inn on Mountain Road, though during busy times this lot will fill quickly. Vistas on this side are a bit limited, but still worth the hike. An all around great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is a nice snap shot of the Trail, for those who only have 1-2 weeks for vacation. The most important part of the hike on the trail is prepare. There are several free parking areas, depending where your hotel is, moreover, the Water Gap Trolley pointed out where the BEST look ours are (especially for photos). Finally, bring water, and snack, the hike can go on for miles depending on how much time you have, and how much hike you are up too. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, offers hikers woods, rocky terrain, breath taking views, fresh air, singing birds, and a break from the hustle and bustle of life. They are only about 1 mile away from each other. Trip was with my sister..no children, I recommend anyone on any long hikes anywhere.....DO NOT HIKE ALONE, I never do. It is safe to hike with a least one other person. The best of hikers have fallen, and having fellow hikers is the best way of coming out OK. *** Bring water, snack, (back pack), extra shirt, sweat shirt if colder weather, DO NOT HKE ALONE, be aware of your surrounding, and most of all ENJOY!! SAFELY!!!

The Water Gap was a Government project to dam up the Delaware River. Lucky for us the area was not suitable for the project. Very unlucky for the displaced people who lived there. The area had suffered during recent storms but as money becomes available it is being repaired. This is an area for outdoor enjoyment, hiking fishing wildlife watching etc. There is river access for boating and some historic sites like Millbrook Village. Check the Gov website for any ranger programs or just go and drive through to explore on your own. You will not believe you are in N.J. (especially if you are on the P.A. side)

Incredible views, trails for all levels. Wonderful area with friendly locals and equally nice fellow tourists. The type of place where you greet people on the trail.

My son and I decided to hike this loop one weekend during the fall after I mentioned that I’ve been driving by this landmark for 40 years and it’s about time I made it to the top. This is a very popular hike on the weekends so get to the parking lot early. The trail immediately rises steeply from the parking lot, so it is a workout from the get-go. It is actually one of the more difficult trails I’ve hiked, not because of how steep it is in sections but due to the condition of the trail. Most of the soil has eroded away, leaving bare uneven rocks, making footing quite precarious if you are older (as I am) but well worth the effort for the views of the Delaware River below. The vistas of the river are better from just below the peak, so look to your right on the trail just before going all the way up. There is a clearing that offers a spectacular 180 degree panorama of the Delaware River and the mountains on the Pennsylvania side of the Water Gap.From the peak we continued on to Sunfish Pond. In all it’s a beautiful 10 – 11 mile loop, that took us 6 hours to complete. The trail back from Sunfish Pond uses an old fire road so the trail condition improves significantly.Wear hiking shoes and bring plenty of water and snacks.If your headed east on RT 46 when your done stop at Hot Dog Johnny’s for well-deserved calories.

Well marked hiking trails and spectacular view make this a wonderful day trip! I've also been here in the fall when the leaves are changing - gorgeous!

We hiked portions of the Cliff Park, Hackers, Pond (Loop) and Buchanan trails. The elevation change for the Cliff Park trail is a little steep; 390 feet according to the National Parks Service map. The views of the Delaware River and of the bridge are excellent and made the trip worthwhile. I recommend printing a NPS map before you go and parking near the Hackers Trail head site. Note also that there is a bath room located near the Cliff Park trail head. If you have time, consider hiking the McDade Recreational Trail which runs adjacent to the river and has many scenic viewpoints. The terrain on this trail varies from flat to rocky in parts.

There are many places to stop and view the water but like we experienced at a couple of scenic areas, there is so much tree and brush overgrowth that we didn't get to see the water at certain points. I kept seeing the gorgeous photo of the gap (like the thumbnail from Tripadvisor) but found that view only accessible from Mt. Tammany in NJ (and a major hike). It is nearby to Stroudsburg and no charge so it is worth stopping. Just South on 611 is a viaduct bridge over the river at Slateford and just south of that is Portland where we used a walking bridge to view the river and the viaduct bridge.

Hiked during fall foliage and it was gorgeous! But the maps provided are terrible! There was a lovely gentleman on the beginning of the trail that gave us better direction. He even said the maps were useless. Part is very steep and may not be good for elderly or small children. Nice views at the top. I suggest getting a proper map before going.

We had overnight canoeing trip in this area two weeks ago. Water is so clean and calm, made the paddling easy and pleasant. Although the foliage is not at the top week, view along the river is still amazing.

Trolley tour was very informative & perfect for a rainy day! We learned a great deal about the history of the Delaware Water Gap area & all the famous people who lived and vacationed there!

We were driving up to the Hudson River Valley from Washington DC and didn't want to drive through New York City during rush hour. We took the scenic route via the Penn Turnpike, Allentown, Bethlehem, and Stroudsburg up to Port Jervis. I had no idea following the Delaware was going to be such a lovely, lovely drive. The road is long and easy, very few cars, and the scenery in October is stunning. Take a picnic; there aren't any towns. Fall colour!

Such a beautiful park and wonderful trails and view. If you like the outdoors and have a sense of adventure then this is an easy choice to visit (just steer clear of the second parking lot bathrooms lol)
