We were on a college visit for my son and I have to say what a wonderful school. The staff and students were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The school offers great programs especially business and health sciences. They have a state of the art Bloomberg business lab and are building a rehab center of the PT program. The dorms are well maintained and the new upper class building is like having a NYC apt. The core values of community and service were clearly evident. I great find!
Plenty of new construction has taken place over the last few years making things beautiful in the "college" part of town. The Rose Garden is a great spot in the summer if you're looking for some peace & quiet to read a book. But travel in to downtown if you're looking for the hustle & bustle.
Great lil college town...looks a lil depressing but campus life and ministry is all there and plentiful
This campus is conveniently located in Scranton. It's extremely clean and has a beautiful landscape. The labs are large and beautiful.
I've been to several functions throughout the campus and the grounds are beautiful, the buildings are all unique and well maintained. It is a Diamond within Scanton.
Earned my masters degree at the U of S. I enjoyed it in 1998 and the campus since then is absolutely incredible.
Perfect size campus. Not to big or small. It's quiet but has a life and the city is one block down the hill. It seems like it's always expanding. Great walking areas. Cool open space and all of my classes are a quick walk from my dorm. Living in Condron is almost like being in a hotel. The food at DeNaples is always rated tops amongst U.S. colleges. I know why... quality preparation and great choices. Not your standard burgers, fries and chick fingers (although you can get that downstairs in the food court by the Starbucks). The chefs do a great job in preparing the food. I've learned a lot in the classes and the professors (for the most part) are very personable and want to see me succeed. The administration has been SO helpful, they feel like my extended family here. Everyone is on a first name basis with me. I have family members that have gone to other universities and every one says they wish they went to the University of Scranton after they visit. I like sports, and the U has a lot of offer (except football). It's not a sports-first school, but that's a plus for Scranton. If you want rah-rah fan-crazed football locally, go a place like Rutgers or Penn State. Scranton is good, although I do wish the student body would support teams JUST a bit more. Not like there isn't any support, there's usually full stands and SRO at Fitz and we get a nice crowd for basketball at the Long Center. Maybe if it was a bit louder and a bit more school spirit... cannot have enough of that type of fun.But that said, EVERYONE at this place is so friendly. Attitude just doesn't seem to exist. There are old traditional building with beautiful architecture and there are state-of-the-art facilities like the Loyola center. If I could go back to my high school senior year and had to choose all over again, I would undoubtedly choose the University of Scranton again!!!Go Royals!
U of S nice new bricks and mortar buildings. Kudos and Bravo to Lackawanna College for historical preservation and reimplementation of historically important and beautiful buildings. Marywood a nice graceful and peaceful setting for learning.
It's a safe college. Of campus housing is always fun for obvious reasons, and the police are always out, not to bust parties or arrest people, but instead to ensure that everyone is 100% safe and aware of what they are doing. I go to Scranton and have seen the cops do nothing but help people. I have never seen an angry response from a student-to-police conversation. If you're a new student, they'll help you around the city too! The school itself has many learning opportunities and friendly staff. The campus is newly renovated and looks beautiful. The dorms are also cute and convenient. I have nothing negative to say about this college or its environment!
Wonderful tour, You see all the housing rooms as well as the eating areas. The grounds are kept very nice. We were worried that it would be a city environment, but it is not. It is in Scranton, but Scranton is more like a small town than a city. This is a nice college in a beautiful setting with at least some options for the kids to do if they go the very short distance to "down town"
This school has a lot to offer. It is a nice mix of new and old. Its education is excellent in the Jesuit tradition but certainly not limited to Catholics, or Christians. The students, while sometimes "being students" (as most any college) are also encouraged by various outreaches in services and similar programs to be involved in local activities. The school tries to be a good neighbor while being a good school and seems to be achieving it..Its constantly improving facilities are a few short blocks from downtown Scranton ...not a shining city whose best days are both in the past and in the future, BUT one still nice enough to offer students "small city" off campus activities, dining, shopping, lodging for parents and other visitors, etc. Off campus housing, once a so-so area, is improving as investors buy/improve the old housing stock nearby. The school appears to be building dorms as part of its improvement strategy as well. Money does not seem to be an issue...there are some notable benefactors and a strong alumni...and tuition isn't cheap. It is convenient to major highways to NY, NJ, CT and of course the rest of PA for those seeking 'not to far' but 'not to close' schools. Many students also come from the Scranton area and commute.Education appears excellent and improving in many areas such as, but not limited to, bio sciences and medical related programs. (this can be explored in depth on the appropriate web sites and other sources). Sports are Division 3 (non athletic scholarship)... but generally serious and competitive in their class...and the school appears to offer a lot of inter-murals. It has modern, nice, athletic facilities for most and has plans to upgrade the few that are still a bit below par in 2013 (softball and baseball fields, notably, though the teams are competitive). There is no football team, interesting since the Scranton area and Pennsylvania are hotbeds for high school as well as college football. There is some occasional local criticism about tax loss to the city since the school is tax exempt and has subsumed some older residences and businesses which once payed city taxes. The school provides some payments "in lieu of taxes" to the city. It appears to regularly try to mitigate this issue with some success...and to generally be a good neighbor and occupant to Scranton. Most 'locals' realize the school is a huge asset to the city and area, and that the good far out-weighs the bad. "Da U' (as it has been fondly referred to locally for decades) is a school that is very good and getting better all the time.
Visited granddaughter. Absolutely beautiful campus, clean and refreshing. Every building we visited was top notch.
I work at the University of Scranton. The services and education provided to students is outstanding. Every student is considered special and receives much help and nurturing to succeed. Students are all encouraged to room on campus so each student gets to know as many other students as possible.
Beautiful school, excellent staff, great variety of classes. This is an excellent school, especially if you are looking to get into Medical School after. Lots of up to date dorms. A relatively pricey school but a good investment.
The university has grown incredibly and continues to enjoy a good reputation, especially for graduate school placement. The campus is well maintained.
