The Lehigh Gap Nature Center (http://lgnc.org) owns over 750 acres of varied habitat along the Kittatinny Ridge straddling Lehigh and Carbon Counties in the upper Lehigh Valley. There are approximately 14 miles of hiking trails, some of the trails are looped so hikers do not have to retrace their steps. The views from some of the trails are very beautiful and great for migratory and resident bird watching, including eagles and other types of raptors. The LGNC sponsors a speakers' series throughout the year on various nature topics. The Osprey House holds informational materials and activities of the Lehigh Gap Nature Center. The LGNC is entirely supported by private contributions and donations. Trails are varied from flat with soft gravel along the Lehigh River to rocky and challenging trails, especially the trails that connect with the Appalachian Trail. The upper part of the nature preserve connects with the East Penn Twp. bike path along the Lehigh which has a boat ramp and parking area. The D&L trail is part of the 165 mile National Heritage Corridor Trail that runs from Bristol PA to Wilkes Barre. It is worth a first time visit and return visits for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.
