We traveled over an hour and a half to get to this winery. The self guided tour is laughable. We went for our samples and were waited on by a rude older woman. State law allows 6 samples. My boyfriend and I each had 3 minuscule samples and she told us that we were at "the end of what she could do for us". Don't waste your time or money.
Wine sampling on a trip to Smicksburg apple and arts fall festival, They were very cordial , even though i was not dressed like a millionaire. Cute wine gifts. Antiques next door but it was closed.
Spent some of the day in Smicksburg with the girls before heading to this winery. I though my city-girl friends were going to soil their pants on the drive to the winery since it's all back roads and such. I couldn't stop chuckling. We passed a few Amish buggies on the way too. Tastings are free here. Pretty good wine. I prefer the dry wines, so was happy to find some here. Staff was very knowledgeable and pleasant. They were getting a kick out of my friends talking about the road there!! Restrooms and gift shop on the premises. They also have a historic log cabin on the property and a very nice view.
suzijojn had an attitude about how much "free" wine she could taste" Look Windgate has some of the best wine you will find anywhere in this country.Amish blush can compete with the "best of them" Eye of the shadow is good as any Italian wine.
After driving on less than desirable roads the winery was a big disappointment. The stingy pours in the tasting room were a joke. The "art gallery" was not worth viewing and the snobby lady in antique shop was annoying.Wineries should be inviting and enjoyable. I usually buy a case, only bought 2 bottles.Don't waste your time.
great variety of wines and opportunity to test-taste and buy exactly what I wanted to please family and guests.
If you visit Smicksburg, plan to visit the Windgate Winery. The staff is very welcoming, and they are proud of their locally produced wines. There is a comfortable indoor room to enjoy wine if the weather is too hot or cold. There is an interesting selection of affordable wines. (Many of them are on the sweet side.) The gift shop offers whimsical selections. If you visit Smicksburg, make sure to bring cash with you. Most of the stores have a minimum purchase requirement to use a credit or debit card. The shop keepers are pleasant as they explain their policies. We were just surprised to find about this policy.
A little out of the way, but a great trip for a fall day. They allow tasting of all their different wines. Wine prices are good. Wine is very tasty. Nice little gift shop there as well. Very close to all the Amish stores in Smicksburg. Nice Saturday trip.
