Nice way to tour the Grand Canon of the East. 2 hour guided covered wagon tour thru the canyon. Beautiful area and a lot of history. Comfortable wagons and beautiful Belgian draft horses.
Relaxing, informative ride in comfortable covered wagon. Guides are knowledgeable & personable. Photographed a bald eagle which delighted me. Many great photo opportunities on the tour.
We reserved spots on line for the wagon ride. Be aware that you are not picking seats when you sign up. Everyone just lines up and loads onto the wagon at the appointed time. There is a nice gathering point for the wagon rides. It's a covered area, and there are adjacent picnic tables to sit at which are also covered, while waiting for the wagon ride to begin. The restroom facilities are porta-potties.The wagons are drawn by a hitch of three belgian draft horses, driven by an Amish wagon teamster. According to the clerk, the wagons seat 25 people comfortably. You sit on bench seats that line either side of the wagon, and you can also sit on the bench directly behind the teamster and guide. If possible, try to sit in the middle of the wagon. When you sit at the front of the wagon, your visibility is limited by the driver's seat. And the tour guide's speakers are right up at the front too, so it can be a little loud when he's talking. The tour guide gave us a lot of interesting historical information about the area. We were lucky enough to see a couple of bald eagles. The scenery along the path we rode was nice, and the fall colors were not quite at peak, but enjoyable. This is a meandering walk. The horses trotted for a very brief time. Most of the trip back was not narrated, which allowed the passengers time to talk and enjoy the view. This is a very low-key activity. We chose it because we enjoy horses and like the scenery of the area. I'm happy to have done it, but don't feel the need to do it again.
If you are going to take one of the rides down into the Canyon.....make sure you pick the 4 hour Wednesday schedule! Well worth the trip , because this one is the Waterfall Wagon Ride. We are so glad we did. It is over 3 hours, not quite 4. Because it's a lengthy trip , we were prepared with a snack bag and small cooler. Wagons leave at 12:30....no later. And you must be present at 12 Noon. No acceptions! The Wagons are like Stretch Limo length and are pulled by beautiful Belgian Draft Horses. Two wagons travel together and each has comfortable leather seats, suspension and shocks. Each come with a Guide who tells you history of the Rail Trail your traveling on and the area history. We were taken to the Turkey Path to see the falls. You are traveling 1/3 of the way up and it's steep, slippery and a hike regardless. Not handicap. Well worth the climb for me to get pictures though. We saw a bald eagle , deer and a stream-wading fisherman on the trip. We highly recommend this worthwhile trip. Wagon Ride does not work well with Tioga RR ride for schedules however. Don't make the mistake like me.... booking and paying for the train ride and cancelling but not able to get my money back. If you are going to do the Wagon Ride ......book that one first and watch the schedules....they are very close and 10 miles apart!!!! Porta Johns at Wagon Ride! Small gift shop with drinks and snacks. Plenty of parking.
This was a very scenic ride in a covered wagon. The guide gave a 2 hour narrative about the area. We saw some beautiful scenery and some wildlife including 2 eagles. The day we took this tour, it was raining but under the cover of the canvas, we stayed nice and dry. Beautiful horses.
This is an experience that is hard to beat, Very informative and very scenic. If you get the chance, talk to Russ. He is extremely entertaining. Please don't miss this attraction. There aren't too many covered wagons left these days and certainly not a lot of opportunities to ride in one.
It was a nice quit ride and some interesting facts about the canyon the down side there is not much to see except the river no wild life except a few birds
We took the 4 hour trip and although it was a bit "slow going," it was alot of fun and the view was wonderful. The friendliness of the guides and the information they share was what made it so nice! If you are able to make a trek up a few flights of stairs along the mountainside to see more of the falls, the trip is even better.
