The Taber Museum holds a wonderful collection of local history from the Williamsport area, and the price of admission is more than reasonable.
Once the richest city in the U S, and the lumber capital of the world. This museum will keep you involved in it's history for hours. Plus there's the extensive Shemp collection of Lionel and other toy trains that has no equal. Easy parking and worth the visit.
mr. taber was such a fixture on the Lackawanna lines around New Jersey that they actually named a train for him and his legacy carries on in this wide-ranging, close quarters exhibition in mostly the basement of an out of the way billport library
A wonderful collection of hundreds of model trains is on display in the basement of the museum. We were pleased that it opened at 9:30am. While we went to see the trains, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of art, lumber history, and other exhibits at this local museum. Well worth the stop.
I was not impressed with the outside of the building but once inside it has a great history of Williamsport and the area. Also there is a photography club there that had a room with competition photos that was interesting especiall the one of a Zebra face, most excellent. The displays in the museum are very good and explain what was going on clearly and held our attention. Lots of great details and worth several visits to remember it all.
The outside of this museum does not do the depth and quantity of items held within justice. We were pleasantly surprised at the amount of exhibits and interactive things to do at this museum. The entire basement is devoted to train memorabilia, with two complete miniature train scapes that you are able to control with the push of a button. On the ground floor, there is art, some highlighting Williamsport related artists, along with a very elaborate and decorative doll house. There are some natural history museum exhibits, historical school house rooms, a general store, some clothing and musical instruments. The list goes on!
