Very nice Museum with 2 floors of beautiful antiques and heritage items. Definitely a must for visitors of York,Pa. What was nice is clean rest rooms, a room to hang up your coats and an elevator/stairs choice. There is a lot to see and walk though. Very nice gift shops too on the main floor.

Always served a great meal. We try to make it here when we visit York, PA. The staff is "always" pleasant!

I often wonder how many York residents have never visited the historic sites? They are true gems. As a little girl I would visit with my dad from time to time and then as an adult I have been a volunteer, staff member and visitor. We took our friends from England to visit the museum and historic buildings when they visited and they were delighted with the tour. The research library in the museum is a genealogical treasure trove for those with York County where you will find very knowledgeable staff and volunteers to assist you.

What a wonderful complex of museums. Your admission gets you into multiple locations. We visited the Agricultural and Industrial Museum, the History Museum, the Colonial Complex and the Fire Museum. All were unique and interesting. The children’s favorites were the Agricultural/Industrial and the Fire Museum. The agricultural/industrial museum had a plethora of really cool industrial equipment from York’s history, as well as some hands on for the children. There were also cars, a train, a trolley and other wonderful exhibits. The Colonial Complex was wonderful because it was preserved in its original spot (minus the recreated courthouse) and was a fantastic glimpse into York’s early history. The History Museum had a lovely display of York’s History and a room that was hands-on for the children. (That always goes over well.) And last, but not least was the Fire Museum. The building itself was worth it. So beautiful, down to the horse stalls. There was historic equipment and the most fun was the tape punchers attached to the bell ringers, which indicate which box was activated. It was well worth the price of admission.

The trust has four sites, we only had time for one. Wonderful Historical Society Museum. Especially good collection & presentation.

Discover the history of York County, Pennsylvania, at the York County Heritage Trust. One of the largest Genealogy Libraries in the area with staff to help you locate reference materials. A museum is located on premise. Other historical sites within walking distance.

Very crowded. No one to direct you for parking. Many displays block by vendors. Steamed shrimp were small and cold. Ray oysters tiny. Both overpriced. Will NEVER go back!

Good view, pleasant place to meet for lunch. Food is pretty good, however, I think they are pricey. They do have an outdoor pit type place that is pleasant with a large outside fireplace. You have to walk steps to get there. Again, food pretty good - but pricey.

This was one of our primary reasons to visit York. We were doing research on some of our ancestors who settled here in the 1700's. There was a Civil War display at the time of our visit. We found a number of valuable references to our ancestors in the archival library.

The group of museums was included in a deal we had with our B&B and it was the best part of the trip. There was a colonial complex with houses and kitchens to tour. The main industrial museum had a lot of dedicated care put into the extensive displays and many interactive things to do as well, like "milking" a cow. The only sad thing was that we were the only people visiting. When we went to the firehouse and signed the visitors book, the last visitor had been there 2 weeks before us. We got a great tour from a former firefighter that had worked out of that firehouse. The main museum was deserted except for us, and we were there in the middle of the day on a holiday weekend. This gem needs to get some attention and promotion. If you are in York, don't miss the museums of the Heritage Trust.

This museum complex exceeded our expectations. The staff is great and it is very well presented. Be sure to take a full day or two to see all the exhibits. There are few true colonial places left.

I've always enjoyed my visits to the YCHT. The building is kept in pristine condition, and the exhibits are always interesting. I love the gift shop too. It's a great place to find a gift for someone who likes local York and Pennsylvania books or crafts.

We visited the Heritage Trust museum on the free admission day, as per a newspaper press release. Nothing in the newspaper, or on the website of the museum told us we had to print out a pass ahead of time. We were informed of that when we reached the museum. We asked if the museum employee could print the pass for us, since we were already there. No. We asked what people do who don't have computer access. She didn't know. Then directed us to the public library to use one of their computers (the same computers that are always in use and always have a list of people waiting for their turn). Asked again: couldn't she print out the passes for us? No. Was she going to allow this piece of bureaucracy to prevent us from seeing the museum (which appeared empty, by the way). Yes. We left. This organization needs to take another look at their Mission. York and York County are well-known for their lack of friendliness and lack of hospitality. This was borne out by our experience.

The York County Heritage Trust, is more than just one building. It is actually located throughout the city of York. It's collection spans from the 1700's to the present day. You can see how people lived and worked during the span of time. A gem of the trust and a personal favorite of mine, is the Fire Museum. It's collection is housed in a former firehouse. If you plan your day, you could cover most of the Trusts properties in one day. But, why rush! If you can, take two days and immerse yourself in history. The cost of a two day ticket won't break the bank. I'd suggest visiting their website to plan your visit, if you must limit yourself to one day.
