Great park to hike, but we got lost for hours because the red, blue, green paths all circle each other. This was our first trip to the park, but they had no maps at the entrance. They don't even have signs inside the park. So we kept circling around because instead of each path having it's own color marker, several paths had the same color. However, going again this summer 2015, with a map this time, and hiking it again especially the hard hike which has a nice 20 minute vertical climb. This park is well worth the trip just make sure you go online and print out a map before you go because they don't maintain maps at the entrance.
This tree preserve is a fantastic place to visit and spend a few hours hiking in nature. The trails are well marked, easy to moderate walking, a bit short but you can combine several trails for a longer hike. Bring your camera since I have never been disappointed in finding something unusual to photograph. A hidden treasure in our back yard...
Just 10 mins from 322 or Front St. Harrisburg you find this amazing Conservation Area! It's so quiet and beautiful. With over 12 miles of trails to weave around you have plenty of options about which way to hike. My dog also loves all the streams and the nice pond to swim in. You can also connect over to the Blue Mountain Parkway trail very easily. The trails are all well marked and maintained for your safety.
With eight trails covering 12 miles, you can make several trips back here and not repeat the same hike. You really feel the privacy as you walk through the wide trails with are mainly gravel covered. No tripping over roots or large stones. A great place to bring your dog (dogs must be leashed).bring water for yourself and your pup. All trash must be taken home with you.Very close to Harrisburg, right off of US Route 322 at the Fishing Creek - PA Route 443 exit.If you live near Harrisburg- than this is a great resource for exercise and for a place for solace.Ladies - bring a partner- you will be alone almost the entire time in the woods. The trails are very wide, not cramped.
