happy valley vineyard & winery

Well-balanced wines and knowledgeable personnel! Shared some of their new wines with us! I would definitely return! Don't be deceived when you think the road ends in a cornfield. Keep going!

Make sure you get a brochure from one of the hotels or visitor's center for the winery as that has the best directions on how to find it. We heard GPS will steer you wrong. The winery is a bit tricky to find, you will go away from the campus and through a housing development - then down a gravel road along the grape vines. The red structure at the end of the trail looks and smells new. Several long tables for groups. You get to taste 5 wines for free. There were 23 options the day my husband and I were there - drys, sweets, fruit and an ice wine. We did not call ahead and were waited on right away by the owner who is a past professor of Penn State - a very nice person. The wine is reasonably priced. We liked several and ended up purchasing the Happy Valley Red. There is also Amish cheese and glasses available for purchase. All in all, a very nice experience - good wine and a great gift idea.

When I visit my mother in PA, we always try to do something different. I was so glad we came across Happy Valley Vineyard & Winery. They were one of the only ones that had tours available that day, so we headed out for State College. You will want to call ahead. They have a brand new wine tasting room, which was beautifully built. They have solar panels on their production facility and they compost, trying to be as sustainable as possible. Our tour was given by Cody, who was so informative and so friendly. We had a lot of questions. The tour was $10 per person. Most importantly, their wine was delicious. I gravitate towards the sweet wines and loved the Sweet Cayuga. We ended up buying four bottles of various wines. Lastly, I have to mention their sweet canine mascot, Harley. He greeted us when we arrived. You will see a picture of him in their wine tasting room, if you look hard enough. Great side trip while in State College!
