Sit at the bar, order a Rolling Rock, a bowl of chili and a burger. It really does not get better than that. A special place to tailgate before home games.
While my husband was a student at Penn State many moons ago, the 'Skeller was his favorite hangout. I finally got the chance to see why. This weekend, we took our son to visit his Dad's Alma Mater and decided that no PSU tour was complete without stopping in to this 81 year old establishment. The décor does not belie it's age, but that's part of the charm. I could do without some of the nasty messages that people have written or carved into the tables, but it's a college town. It is a great place to just hang back and enjoy your company with some food and drinks! We had a great time and I could tell my hubs was going down memory lane while were there. My son got a kick out of it, as well - it was a neat time for us as a family sharing this Penn State tradition! The servers are very attentive and very quick - so you won't be waiting long for anything! If you haven't already been to the 'Skeller, please try and fit it into your next visit - you'll be glad you did!
The skeller is comfortable, fun, the staff is friendly and relaxed but attentive. There are always special times and nights that keep things interesting. Best of all the kitchen is shared with "Spats" upstairs and the food is fabulous, plentiful, and cheaper than at Spats! This is where we meet people coming into town, where we come after work for a meal and a pitcher, where our family meets from campus and town, where we come to celebrate good things. The bathrooms are clean and improved enough to mention them in a review. Thursdays are trivia night, so it gets crowded then, and it is a college town bar, so some days we can't get in, but we always try because it is affordable, fun, relaxed, and the food is outrageous!
