antique sounds

My wife and I were riding our bikes on the lovely North Central Rail trail from Baltimore into PA and stopped in Railroad PA at Antique Sounds (right next to the trail). Antique Sounds is an antique store and has the chaotic/dis-shelved look, so you know it exists for love (vs flipping stuff), and proprietor Skip Kahl loves early-mid 20th century sounds. My wife and I are 50-somethings and of course grew up on LPs (and still have our collections). Well, at Antique Sounds you can see - and listen to - the LP ancestors. The store has a great collection of phonograph cylinders (records were round before they were flat), Victrolas, Edisons, and the great old 78's they play. Better still - Skip is so knowledgeable about how they work, the history of the machines (and the music), and he loves to talk about it. This is music we don't hear anymore, and it really sounds great on these machines. You can buy 78s and phonograph cylinders on Amazon I'm sure, but you won't get the history lesson from Skip.
