I have been able to enjoy the Frankfort lighthouse for almost 20 years now and it never gets old. She stands through the changing seasons, changing days as Lake Michigan paints a new picture every day. Surely the best things about Frankfort are free to all.
The Frankfort Light is located in Frankfurt's harbor. Anyone can walk on its peer, but not when we came, as the lake was tumultuous due to the wind. It was built in 1912, replacing the one from 1873.The sun was starting to set when we arrived. We stopped and sat on one of the benches to admire the view. However it was a bit too chilly and we were able to stay only for about 15 minutes. Nice view though! A perfect spot for the romantic!
The Frankfort light is well worth a walk out along the seawall, mainly for the great view backward once you get there. The light itself doesn't amount to much. Always a few fishermen on wall, so it must be a productive spot, if you've brought your gear. Don't try this walk with a NW wind blowing too hard; people have been know to get knocked off by the surf.
Even on a rough day with high winds whipping the waves around the base of the light, I found the park and the views available to be peaceful and calming.
Our hotel was just two minutes from the beach to view this lighthouse and the walk to the actually lighthouse was just as short. Plenty of benches to grab a spot and watch the sun set.
Looking to get 'up North' but avoid the crowds? Look no further than the beach and pier in Frankfort. With its gorgeous sand beach (groomed each day), volleyball nets, swing sets, and plenty of park benches, this spot is definitely the oasis you've been dreaming of. Not to be missed is the Fourth of July fireworks launched from the pier over Lake Michigan. But be warned: get there early. It's the only time of year you'll need to fight the crowds for a spot of heaven.
Not the most impressive lighthouse, though it is very quaint. The walk along the jetty is the best part. We had beautiful weather the day we visited. It wasn't too crowded, we actually had time alone at the lighthouse before more people came. Fantastic photo ops! Great beach area, though we didn't swim. We walked to the shops and enjoyed ourselves very much.
What could be better than watching a fantastic fireworks show following a beautiful sunset on the white sands of Lake Michigan? Be prepared for mosquitos, though. Be a good citizen and pick up after your self...annoying visitors leaving trash for "somebody else" to pick up.
Cute little lighthouse, break park at location, clean and beautiful beach & water lakefront. I wish it was warmer for a swim. Very nice people as well.
This is not the most beautiful lighthouse you will ever see, but it grows on you, and walking on the concrete jetty is a very pleasant experience.
Town has Great playground area for kids. Nice shops and restaurants. We drove up from beulah,Crystal lake.Worth the day trip. The same bagel shop in Beulah is in Frankfort. Good sandwiches and value. Locals raved about the fusion resturant, will have to try that next time. We're told the main street is only open during summer months. They really cater to tourists and summer residences. Friendly folk
Stopped and wondered on the beach, as it is a beautiful little park area. Didn't go out on the pier, as it was a bit too cold, and the waves were a bit high, crashing over at times. Gorgeous fall day to visit, though.
The breakwater is walkable to the lighthouse. Nice place to visit.I would not want to try walking in on a day with high waves through.
This nice little lighthouse (though nothing spectacular) sits at the end of the shopping district at the beach area on the main road in downtown Frankfort which is a quiet, charming, and beautiful setting. In fact, the light is just a few blocks from downtown so one can easily walk to this location. There are also plenty of small shops and eateries in town (ice cream and fudge too)... and these too are all within walking distance of each other. There is also a nice little park right in the middle of town which has public restrooms and plenty of play equipment for the kids to enjoy. If you wish to stay in the area, we walked by a few bed and breakfasts and I believe maybe even an Inn just blocks from Lake Michigan and I am sure that these could be easily located on the internet. As always, be safe and enjoy your travels J.
Not much to see or do. The breakwater out to the light can be very dangerous. Be sure to pick your time carefully.
