Has a great outside deck, when the weather is Google you can't beat it. Good wines, has a very good red but pricey. No inside seating!
First, this is my second time here but first review. I love most of their wines. I was there on Saturday with friends. This place is a great place to sit and relax after you taste their wines, pick a glass of your favorite and sit on the spacious patio to sip it. You can also bring in food to enjoy on the patio if you would like - which we did. They have several levels of decks, chairs and tables and even a couch out there. I love their Lago Rosso, Dolce Vida, Bianco Bello, Celeste & the Prediletto Blush. I purchased bottles of the Dolce Vida & Celeste and I bought a glass of the Prediletto Blush to enjoy outside. After having a full glass, I ended up purchasing a bottle of that too! They have a friendly staff and love going back there. I highly recommend it.
If you are in SW Michigan and love wine you have to venture to Coloma. I love wine tasting. Some of my favorite wines I tasted were: Dolce Vita, Celeste, Divino, Blanco Bello, and Rosa d’amore. The property is beautiful and the building is really stunning.
Contessa is one of those jewels when it comes to wineries. It is situated just off of I-96 at Coloma, but it is up a hill that makes for a nice view of surrounding countryside. The building is an A-frame, but it is the decking that makes it such a terrific place. There are several levels of decking off of the front of the building with seating, including a comfy cushioned wicker ensemble. Every time we have been there, we have wished we were with a bus tour so we could just sit out front and enjoy a bottle of wine between us. And enjoy the wine is exactly the right words because their wine is very delicious. We like all of their offerings that we have tried. They also have a beautiful calico cat running around who loves attention. This is one of those places that charges for tastings, but who cares? The wine is fantastic and worth the cost of the tasting. The day we were there, they were not scheduled to open until noon. The server was there around eleven and told us to come on in. He was very cordial and made us feel very welcome. I hope that the bottles we bought will last until we can return to this delightful winery to get more. This is definitely one of those places you will want to visit over and over.
Although we didn't particilarily LOVE all the wines there were a few gems, and many of the wines have won many medals at different competitions. The building is very clean and smells good. There's a large patio deck with a wonderful view to enjoy a glass of wine.We weren't searching for a fruit wine but knew the area had A LOT of them. So for our laste tastsing we got a Cherry wine. The owner/winemaker paired it with a piece of dark chocolate sea salt toffee bar from the VIntage Gourmet chocolate/candy store just next door (I think that was their name). AMAZING. Best pairing of a food and wine. We snagged a bottle and headed to the chocolate shop for a chocolate bar to go with it.
The tasting rom was small, but the staff was very friendly and helpful. Tre Tenors and Divine were our favorites. Beautiful 3 tier deck overlooking the vineyards.
the experience was great the staff was fun and not pushy for a small price you can have a tasting of 6 different wines we enjoyed them all but there of course were some favorites they give you some small pieces of chocolate to pair with the wine and of course there is a bottle deal if you buy while we were there a limo came and brought ladies and told us of the deals you can get on wine tours of this part of Michigan.. the building beautiful view of the orchards and vineyards around. would buy there wine again ,there is no fee to go there but there is to taste so don't be afraid to stop in they have really cute gift shop
Wow!, their location is just beautiful. Wish my mom and I knew more about this winery/vineyard so we could've prepared to stay there a bit longer and hang out on their awesome deck/patio. We got there pretty early so it was quiet. The lady that was doing our tasting was real friendly, nice and informative when we asked a question. I will definitely go back on my next Michigan wine tour trip!
Small tasting room. Expected better explanation of wines and what's favored. Pretty scenery and close to Chocolate Garden
This was our first time wine tasting and we made that known when we arrived. We were the only ones there at the time so they spent some time with us answering questions and walking us through the tasting. Very impressed with the facility and of course the wine! If you have never wine tasted or are new to wine period, I highly recommend this place because they will help you zero in on your likes and dislikes in wine.
last year we added the state of Michigan to our local vacation getaways and I did not get the chance to visit one of many wineries in this state. This year, on our way to The Chocolate Garden, we stopped at the Contessa. They actually had closed a half our earlier but I asked my husband to go in and ask if we could come in since I have been trying to get to a winery for a while. He graciously agreed to let us come in. I don't know if he was the owner or manager but he complied and boy was he the nicest and most patient guy. I'm sorry I don't remember his name. The wine was so reasonably priced. He was nice to my 2 teenaged sons. This is a little farther out from where we will be staying when we visit Michigan but the drive is worth it and we will return. Please visit this charming place. I guarantee you will love it!
Very nice staff, wines are decent only issue for a large place the tasting bar is mall....also on the weekend there are wine tours of 15 people not only could you not get anywhere to taste by the time we got to taste the wine everyone raved about they ran out...
Decided to try this winery along with other attractions in this area (chocolate shops, orchard). The view from the tasting room is beautiful and the wines were very good. We bought a bottle each of Dolce Vita and Blueberry. We each tried seven of the wines (all good) and the tasting fee is waived when you buy a bottle of wine. The wine is reasonably priced and I was enjoying the pleasant taste all the way home! We also visited the Chocolate Garden and want to come back when the cider mill nearby is open.
We were very pleased with out experience here. Wine was quite good and staff were helpful and friendly. Their aged raspberry cordial was delicious! Wine is reasonably priced and tasting room is very beautiful with lots of interesting artwork and jewelry to look at. We visited in winter, but they also have a three level outside deck which would be fun to sit out on in the better weather. Will be stopping again in the future!!!!
Stopped by here for our second time on a trip to Chicago for the weekend. We were the only folks there, so it really was great. Sorry, can't remember the person that was serving us, but she was great. Great wine selections for our tastings too. Well worth the stop. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the wines. Also stopped by the Chocolate Garden after our wine tasting and that was fun too.
