For those who have never been to this historic site, it should be on your list of must-visit sites. The original Opera House was built in the late 1800s, but the Opera House fell into disrepair and was slated for demolition in the 1970s. A group saved it, renovated it, and it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful venues I have ever seen. The Opera House seats 582 people and the acoutsitcs are remarkable. I have been to probably 100 performances, either as an audience member or a cast member, and the stage still takes away my breath. Performances are staged about every other month, and the prices are very reasonable. Make it a point to visit the Cheboygan Opera House.

We have been to the Opera House for Christmas shows, Concerts, plays, Musicals. The locals do a great job acting, costumes, set designs. This ain't Hollywood but good wholsome entertainment. We try to keep track of what goes on at the Opera House but for some reason they just don't get it about keeping a online site easy to use and let you know who or what goes on at the OH. I signed up but nothing on the schedule of events. They don't even advertise in the PI County newspaper. We have enjoyed the OH many times

Nick Hilcher, the director of the Glenn Miller Orchestra said that the people of Cheboygan had a real treasure in the opera house. it is a beautiful facility. We sat in the third row. Excellent acoustics. The Glenn Miller Orchestra is worth hearing anywhere. We flew from North Carolina to go to the concert while visiting family in the area. The Opera House, originally constructed in 1877, played an important role in the history of the colorful lumbering era in Northern Michigan. Twice ravaged by fires and rebuilt in 1888 and 1903, the facility now harmoniously houses its original combination of City Hall, Police Department, Fire Department and the 582 seat Opera House. In 1984, after having been closed for some twenty years, the elegantly restored Opera House re-opened its doors to the public once more. Managed by the Cheboygan Area Arts Council, with the support of The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, this acoustically superb, Victorian theatre has become the focal point for entertainment and the performing arts in the Straits of Mackinaw area and beyond.
