Loved sharing "Steel Magnolias" with my daughters. Wonderful compact theater - every seat is great! The staff were friendly and helpful. Performance was well done. Would definitely come back again.
Beautiful, small venue so you feel like you are a part of the play. Great acting! Wonderful all around experience every time we go!
This is the second live theater production I've seen here. The theater is a very intimate setting with only 120 seats or so. Not a bad seat in the house. Great place to take some live theater
Our experience at the Purple Rose was awesome! We loved Jeff Daniels and his stories and tunes. One of the best shows--Daniels told the small audience (full house, but very small and intimate) tales about his life and the inspirations for the songs he shared with us. Seating was comfortable and the staff couldn't have been nicer. Great little bit of culture in Chelsea and we hope to return and support this gem.
Theater at it's best. We have yet to see a ho hum production. Well worth the drive...and make sure you eat in town. You will never be disappointed!
As long-time residents and avid fans of live performance we could not believe our luck when the Purple Rose opened in 1991. Over the years we have had the luxury of fine, live entertainment within walking distance of home, something one usually expects in a big city. The intimacy of this small theatre in the round offers a "feel like you are in it" sensation along with real opportunities to join in like the time one of the actors in "Guys On Ice" landed in mom's lap! Mom's temporary discomfort not withstanding we owe Jeff Daniels a debt of gratitude and warm thanks for this gift. His New Year's live show here gives the audience a chance to hear of family life, music and mishaps that we can all relate. Come and enjoy.
We saw "Annapurna" and the performance was top notch!!The actors Richard McWilliams and Michelle Mountain were outstanding. The theatre's seating arrangement makes you feel like you are in the play yourself. The actor's emotions can be felt because the visibility is so good.We left the theatre with the feeling that we just saw a major production. Well done...to say the least. You've won over 4 new customers...we will be back.Thank you and great job.
Everything I have seen at the Purple Rose Theatre has been great. It is a small theater so every seat is good. The layout requires creative set design, which they always manage to pull off. I have not been disappointed with the acting. I have been so impressed I don't think much about what the plot of the play is, because I know they have high standards and whatever they do will be done well.
Founded by Jeff Daniels the Purple Rose Theatre is a top small theater in a charming town. The acting was top notch. The play we saw was lots of fun, The Last Romance starring Will David Young,Franette Liebow and Priscilla Lindsay. What a wonderful small theater with no bad seats and reasonable ticket prices.
The Purple Rose is a gem. We saw "The Last Romance" which was wonderful. All the actors were amazing.
We visited Chelsea last week and had a great time at the restaurants in town, and enjoyed a fun and well acted play at the Purple Rose Theatre. The theatre is very small and intimate, yet the work was professional and crisp. Can't wait to go back!!
This is a wonderfully laid-out small theater; there are no "bad" seats. It is located in a charming MI town just minutes from Ann Arbor. We have thoroughly enjoyed each and every play that we have seen there.
I went to see a performance of The Last Romance by Joe DiPietro and it was wonderful. The theatre is intimate and I don't believe there is a bad seat in the house. The ticket prices were incredibly reasonable and snacks (soda, water, candy) is available during intermission. The play itself was awesome with a lot of laughter, some drama, some sadness and the talkback after the show gave us a chance to engage with the producers and actors. A wonderful experience and I highly recommend attending.
A visit to Purple Rose is always enjoyable because of the local charm of the venue and the pleasure of live theater, although the offerings may be uneven. A recent preview performance of The Last Romance was a case in point. The play was thin and the plot rather predictable, but the cast and production did their best to make the most of the material. Another pleasant summer diversion.
This is a very comfortable small theater where you are close enough to really connect with the performers,. The ones we saw gave a wonderful, professional show, full of energy. There is nothing quite like live theater.
