We LOVE anything & everything Michigan so when we find businesses like Art is in Market, Mitten Crate or Live Love Michigan, we feel like it is our Michigander duty to share the wealth & knowledge with all of our followers. My recent experience at a Ferndale based business was without a doubt one of the best. Rust Belt Market is THE PLACE for artists, collectors, and shoppers who admire the Mitten State as much as we do.Rust Belt is an artist & vintage market that is open year-round and full of Made in Michigan vendors. Hour Detroit named Rust Belt the “Best Place to Buy Local Craft” for two years straight (2013 & 2014) for a reason. From coffee to furniture and art to clothing, Rust Belt Market has something for everyone… especially the Michigan lover. It is best to arrive at Rust Belt with no task in mind so you can take it all in and possibly discover something new. It is difficult to give an exact cost, but I can guarantee you will not come out empty handed and will feel good about putting money into the hands of local, small businesses. I bought a beer carrier from Michigan Reconstructed ($36), a baby infinity scarf from Ori Kami Organics ($12) and a two types of metal beer openers from Speedcult Detroit (MSU $35).I almost exploded with excitement as I walked through the doors. There is so much to see and it is truly a pleasure to talk with the artists, creators and business owners. Rust Belt Market is a perfect place to support local businesses & share your love for Michigan.
Nice place to spend a weekend afternoon. Homemade, bizarre, beautiful and anything but ordinary articles to buy. Several vendors have the most artful and creative booths. Nice cup of hot tea and homemade dessert was a bonus.
This is a very cool and uniques market. I really enjoy the variety of vendors you can find here and how you can always have a good time.
Interesting artist market. Only open 11-7 on weekends. Artists rent booths & display their items in unique ways. Fun music plays in the background. Enjoyed my visit.
Heard about Rust Belt Market from a friend so my sister and I made this our first stop after lunch on the 17th of May. The Market is all indoors and each vendor has their own unique space to display their goods. We took our time walking around and spent about 45 minutes. The walkways were very roomy, but access "inside" some of the vendors' areas was a bit more restrictive (i.e. not stroller friendly). We didn't end up with any purchases but we both agreed to come back again. There are restrooms on the premises.
Let us start off by emphasizing that you DO NOT have to be a hipster to enjoy this compact conglomeration of local entrepreneurs. Yes, some of the wares are a little expensive but there is plenty of affordable stuff here. Lots of vintage clothing,( the kind of clothing my daughter is loving), delectable palate ticklers, jewelry, woodcarvings, Speedcult steel designs and it is all indoors. Love the idea of buying local. Combine a trip here with some Ferndale eateries and make a day of it. A BIG go to place in my book.
Pick up a gift for a friend, your mom, your significant other or maybe yourself! Browse all the booths for new quirky items or maybe something vintage. There's art, there's handmade soap and lotions, there's t-shirts, home decor & more! Don't forget to pick up a coffee or some beans from the amazing Henrietta Haus coffee roasters. YUM.
This place is so cool! Lots of neat vendors under one roof on the weekends. I went one Sunday afternoon with my daughter and had such a great time. We ended up with a few great finds for bargain prices. There is art, jewelry, clothing, soaps and creams, food, vintage artifacts and housewares, plants and much more. I cant wait to return!
I like the variety of vendors offering unique items. I like the grab a cup of coffee and a slice of pie from differengt vendors as I browse and shop. There's live music at times which is fun.
This is such a wonderful place to visit. So many very creative items. There are wonderful people here and they do take the time to tell you about their works of art. It's very difficult not to spend money here. You'll see rows of artistic vendors. Items are available in all price ranges. Friday nights are fantastic and that's when I usually go as I combine a meal with this terrific experience. Try to go through the front door so you can see the signage outdoors. You'll also see information about upcoming events there. What I like most about this venue is that it changes constantly and I feel that the place never gets old. I visit the Rust Belt monthly. This is such an inspirational place. Some items are vintage, some original art, some brand new. Whether you go alone or with others, you'll enjoy the experience.Double check the open times. There's plenty of lighting. There is a big parking lot. Cash. Check. Credit Card accepted.
Tons of unique things... I am all about supporting the local scene, anb there is 100% of it here. I've done Christmas shopping as well as stuff for myself. Ive been there a dozen times and there is always something new. Its not stagnant like some of those other markets in the area. Its a great way to spend time on a lazy Sunday either alone or with friends.
The Rust Belt provides a real-world (vs online) venue for local artisans/creatives to display quite an array of wares. I had a blast looking at unique pieces in various mediums, talking to the vendors, and being generally inspired. Enjoy!
Spent a very pleasant Sunday afternoon in Ferndale this past weekend at the Rust Belt Market. Unique things to buy, great photos and clothes, lots of vintage stuff, and byond delicious Rock City Pies. Lunch at Rosie O'Grady's capped a great afternoon. Can't wait to go back! Everyone was very friendly and I loved the items being sold as they are quite different and interesting and reasonably priced.
If any state has felt the pain of the recession, it's Michigan. In the wake of the GM bailout, people realized that they needed to be more frugal than ever before; and, as history has proven, tough times often force people to be creative. Every weekend, the aptly named Rust Belt Market in Ferndale, Michigan brings together local artists and designers to present their wares. Modeled after the Williamsburg, Brooklyn Artists and Fleas Market, the Rust Belt features designers who use sustainable materials such as old license plates to create handbags and jewelry. Detroit GT, one of their featured vendors, encourages locals to express their pride with one of their unique t-shirts with hand drawn designs. The Rust Belt Market combines the artistic vibe of the outer boroughs of New York and Detroit's rich automotive heritage to bring a unique shopping experience to anyone living in or visiting Ferndale. The Rust Belt Market is open from 11am-7pm every Friday and Saturday. The live music list can be seen on their website, www.rustbeltmarket.com.
