This is a wonderful gem in the heart of the city. Their new location is wonderful year-round. Tons of vendors there even in the dead of winter. Great little eateries, bakeries, meat and produce vendors and more. It is within blocks of the UofM-Flint campus, coffee houses and restaurants. Love making a morning or afternoon of it when we go.
The new farmers market is impressive! Great variety of vendors! Stopping here made my day! So much to choose from! Of course fruits, vegetables, fresh breads, cheeses and meats, then so many lunch counters, wine shop, hardware store, and delectable sweet treats... Clean and well lit as well! Love it!
The Flint Farmers' Market is an enjoyable place to visit. It's clean, and well-organized. There's a great variety of vendors to visit, and there are several places to eat, as well. Part of the market is outdoors, but the larger part of it is indoors, so even on cold days, it's nice to walk around and check out the goods that are for sale. There is a big seating area in the middle, and there's even a play area for kids now. If you're visiting Flint, it's a great place to go to buy some local produce or merchandise.
Lots of fresh fruit, veggies, baked goods, and plenty of other fine vendors. Fun for the whole family. Plenty of parking.
Great what they have done with the farmers market! Was very impressed since I hadn't been since it was relocated.
Visited the FFM at their new location for the first time yesterday (Saturday). Great experience! Very busy but everyone was friendly and the atmosphere made me feel like I was somewhere other than Flint, which I hope will change, and places like this will contribute to Flint being a "destination". The whole downtown area is really trying to attract people and the FFM is worth regular visits. There was live music, outdoor vendors and inside, a wide variety of shops. Quite a few years ago, there was a plaza near the old farmers market site that tried to open and attract shoppers but it tanked miserably. Part of that was due to the economy but also the shop owners were rude and the shoppers acted like hoodlums. The FFM has a completely different vibe and attracts and is operated by a wide variety of people, all of whom seem genuinely dedicated to making the visit a positive one.
The new Farmer's Market is clean and bright. There's a pretty good variety of vendors and the quality of produce appears to be good. There are plenty of fresh vegetables and meat. Prices seem to be reasonable. There are more vendors, and customers, on Saturday.I shall return...with apologies to Douglas MacArthur.
There was so many beautiful garden plants, fruits, veggies, cheese, meats... if you are a foodie and want somewhere to spend a wonderful few hours visit here! 3 generations (including my 7 year old) enjoyed our 3 hour adventure. Great places to eat and shop. Fairly easy parking for a downtown considering we went on a Saturday and mid-morning. The new building adds wonderful facilities to the outdoor market.
The NEW Flint Farmer's Market is one of the best!I still rate Detroit's Eastern Market as Michigan's best (for selection and overall experience), but the new Flint market has really expanded into something on-par with the new Downtown Market in Grand Rapids, Mi. or the North Market in Columbus Ohio, or the Kerrytown Market in Ann Arbor. The new Flint Farmer's market is much better than the City Market in Lansing, Michigan or all of the little "once a week" markets in smaller communities. The new Davison Market which also opened this year is also worth checking out. When Flint announced the move from the old market location, the idea for the Davison market took off. Now we have two excellent local markets within an easy ten minute drive between each other. Way to go!!!The new Flint Farmer's Market has some really great features including:A demonstration kitchenA new, large gallery spaceTwo "business incubation" commercial kitchensLots of FREE parking (without all of the puddles and craters of the old location)Willson Park (just across the street)An outdoor balcony patioLots of indoor and outdoor seating with tablesA kid's play area, sponsored by the Flint Children's MuseumA hardware store (a mini ACE hardware)Outdoor vendors areaEasy access to downtown Flint and the MTA bus systemThere are many more great amenities that I can't think of at the moment. The location of the new market is just a few blocks away from the old location. The new location is South of the old location and will be easy to get to (as soon as all of the road construction is completed). The market days are still just on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. I am hoping that with as much success that the market is experiencing, management will expand open hours into the evening and be open on Fridays as well (especially on Artwalk Fridays)... Just a thought... nudge, nudge. ;-)
Going during the week is less busy, but you can find just about anything here. You can buy Rocks to buying cheese. Beirut Restaurant & Grocery is an excellent vendor, you can't go wrong with anything he makes. Can buy Honey Comb. One Vendor has cheese from all over, and every kind of cheese you can think of, plus you can sample it!. Don't forget to go upstairs to see art from local artist.
We were in town in order to run the Crim. We stayed at the HI Express across the street and are big farmer market fans so after the race we made plans to visit before heading back to the Detroit area. Both of my parents are originally from Flint and I can remember my grandfather taking me here when I was young. It was cool to see it again. The market is small when comparing it to other markets that I have been to (we visit Eastern Market in Detroit weekly and the Flint market is probably 1/4 of the size). That being said size is not everything. Seemed that the produce was nicer and the farmers friendlier. We bought a number of fresh produce and were surprised to find specialty items that I have never seen at larger more "sophisticated" markets. Not much in the way of meat, poultry, or other however there were stores that sold these items. If I were going here on a regular basis it would be for the produce. Even though it was Saturday and a ton of people were in town for the race it did not seem overly crowded. All in all I would definitely return and it brought back a bit of nostalgia from my past.
Really neat indoor/outdoor farmers' market. Lovely fresh flower bouquets for decent prices. There was lots of fresh produce, meat and cheese. We went on a Saturday around noon so it was very crowded. Perhaps a Tuesday or Thursday would be quieter days to visit. There was plenty of free parking although watch out for many pot holes. Easy access back to the highway.
I love the art store on the second level. kudos to whoever melts the wine bottles and sells the pretty light switch and outlet covers! And the apple cider slushes below the art store are AMAZING!!Love the rock guy, cheesy people, and the dolmas at the middle eastern place.
Saturdays in Flint are wonderful and a great day to explore the area. Take the Farmer's Market. It's so much fun. Bring your camera. I usually visit the market frequently. Parking is free and safe in both the paved and gravel lots. Hours are 8A-5P on Saturdays. I think they are also open Tuesdays and Thursdays. Double check. There is a row of outside vendors selling produce at reasonable prices. Then, enter the brick building. It's abuzz with wonderful booths. Some are food related. Others aren't. Take in the entire experience. There is a wonderful Middle Eastern booth that sells delectable Chicken Shwarma pita sandwiches and also some downright sinful Halva & Turkish Delight. Mosey to the baked goods, cheese, wine, herbs, beverages and other food vendors. Samples are available. Then there is a booksellers booth, rocks and craft items. Everything is so much fun to look at. There is no way that I can ever leave this market empty handed. And, there is also music at the market. Again double check with the Flint Farmer's market website."The Master Gardener" is usually there and we've had fascinating talks. I find it very helpful with my own plants, not that I am a gardener by any means.Just know that this is not a stagnate market at all. Check out the programs, the talks, the events and the satellite market options. In other words, there is a lot happening within the market. Restrooms and a water fountain are easily available. Be sure to look for the stairway and go upstairs. You will be glad you did. Scope out the bulletin boards. The market features classes and also events such as a BBQ, Chili Cook Off and others. Definitely have breakfast at Steady Eddy's upstairs, which caters to the vegetarian and vegan crowd, which I am not. No matter. The food is wonderful. There is usually a line and no one seems to mind. There is also a gallery upstairs and another store. Don't miss it.This is a wonderful place to take the children. They will love it. A great educational experience.Usually at the main entrance you'll see tents of vendors selling everything from garments, plants and take with food. When you are finished, be sure to cross the street and look at the Flint River. This is the bike path and you'll see signs explaining the history of Flint, which punctuate the City. It's a great way to explore Flint. Make a day out of it.
I recently moved back to Flint in my late 20s, and decided to stop by a place I loved as a youth. The Farmers' Market is such a nice place to visit. I was delighted by the addition of a wine store and a used book stand. Even though it was winter, the shops inside were buzzing. Doughnuts, fancy cheeses, quality, fresh meat, flowers, spices, and homemade jams and crafts were all available and very reasonable. I found lots of gifts and stockpiled for summer birthdays. There is an art gallery and café upstairs that would be easy to miss so be sure to look for the stairs. Those weren't open when we were there, but they looked neat so I'm sure we will be back soon. All of the vendors were very friendly and helpful. No one was pushy. It was safe and downright pretty in a way. Stop by next time you are bored and enjoy this delightful hidden market.
