We have enjoyed Brys for many years. The tasting room is gorgeous, and they recently added an upper deck and second tasting room with wonderful views. The staff is always great and the owners are often right there interacting with the staff and customers. It was the first place we had a really good red wine made in Michigan, I am happy to say that is not as uncommon these days to find a good Michigan red but Brys still stands out. It is always a favorite destination when we go wine tasting.
Best winery on old mission peninsula. Love the wood tasting bar and the entire tasting room has a great vibe to it. The new outdoor space and patio walk are great additions. Staff is a little cold at times, especially if you don't look like you belong there, but the excellent wines make up for it. The reds are a must, but I also enjoy their Riesling blends, as they always seem to have a new one every year.
We stopped by to taste the reds as they are well known for them. The pinots were quite tasty as were the whites. Julie made us feel at home and spent lots of time talking about the wines. On a cold winter day, it was great to look out over the vineyards and East Bay.
My boyfriend and I went to the winery for our first tasting ever. The wine was great and we really enjoyed the cheese sampler. Unfortunately, the staff member we had was not the most friendly. However, we definitely would recommend trying out the winery as it was a beautiful surrounding and enjoyable to experience.
I often find myself bringing out of town guests for a wine tasting on the Old Mission Peninsula and I always make sure Brys is on the list, even if we only have time for one or two and it always seems to be everyone's favorite. Of all of the wineries on the peninsula it is the only one where I maintain membership in their wine club. The tasting room is beautiful, the staff are great, and the wine is above average. If you happen to find yourself here during the summer months, they have a great observation deck where you can enjoy a glass of wine while overlooking the vineyard. If you get a chance, try the ice wine and cheesecake pairing, but I also really enjoy the standard tasting and they have a great meat and cheese platter to accompany a tasting as well.
Wasn't planning on liking this vineyard, seemed elementary compared to the others larger vineyards but I was wrong ... Really nice tasting and wine was fab .... Of all bottles purchased those r ones I wished I had more of... Go and enjoy!
Loved the Merlot! Bought two bottles. This is one of the most beautiful wineries in the area. They definitely know what they are doing with the Reds.
My wife and I visited Brys Estate during a trip to Northern MI to celebrate our anniversary. Brys Estate has always been our favorite vineyard to visit and this trip was much the same. With the addition of their new deck overlooking the vineyard the visit was even better than before. The various wines are favorites of my wife and myself--the staff is very pleasant and the view and grounds are gorgeous. We love the fact that all of the grapes for the wine are estate grown and not imported from somewhere else. The staff does an excellent job in producing top flight wines that we truely enjoy. We enjoyed a Fall late afternoon with a glass of our favorite wine and a cheeseboard on the new deck and thoroughly enjoyed the Fall weather in Northern MI.I highly recommend a visit to Brys Estate--it is definitely a must visit for us on every trip Up North.
The grapes were shrouded in some sort of protective cover here that gave the estate a charming Halloween look. Guests are able to walk out on a deck to get a good view of the grapes and it is quite lovely. Rather than the standard tasting, we opted for a small glass of ice wine and a slice of cheesecake: delicious combination! I would recommend it. Don't miss this winery, on the beautiful Old Mission Peninsula. We almost did, but were able to stop on our way home. Glad we did.
We really enjoyed the new outdoor deck overlooking the vineyard. We choose to skip the wine tasting and go straight for the wine by the glass. Really liked the 2013 Pinot Blanc. The fall color was at peak & amazing scenery to enjoy.
Dear fk78787 - I am so sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your recent tasting experience at Brys Estate. You visited us during one of our Harvest Trail days - which is where we do our tastings at four different tasting stations located in our barrel room, cask room and production areas. We find that most visitors really enjoy being able to see the back of the house which normally is not open to the public. We only do our Harvest Trail on our busiest Fridays and Saturdays in the Fall. Guests visiting us Sunday-Thursday have our traditional tasting a our tasting bar. By offering our tasting in a progressive format on our busy fall weekends - it allows us to serve upwards of 1200 guests per day with little or no wait times. If we did not offer our Harvest Trail tastings on these days - wait times for tastings could be well over an hour. We have found that most guests prefer this format of tasting versus long waits for traditional tasting experiences at the bar. Because we are a small family owned winery, we do not have enough staff to handle the number of visitor we receive on these days - and so on some occasions we have some of our wine club members volunteer to pour at the tasting stations. While not necessarily experts in wine, these volunteers are passionate about our products and generally are very familiar with the wines being poured. At the main bar, our trained staff are available to answer any additional or more technical questions that our volunteers may not be able to answer. At the main bar on these days we also offer the opportunity to try "wine shots" of any of our wines - and our trained staff are available to answer any questions you may have. You also mentioned that you felt the pour sizes were small. At Brys Estate during our Harvest Trail days we offer guests four standard 1/2 oz samples of wine (the equivalent of a half a standard glass of wine) and a large souvenir glass for $5. As most guests are visiting several wineries in a day - consuming more than this (or the equivalent of a full glass of wine) would be too much when visiting 5 or six other wineries. We also offer glasses of wine for guests wishing to enjoy more wine after their tastings. Our wines vary in price from year to year from $12.99 all the way up to $75 for our specialty ice wine. We sincerely hope you will give us another try! Please contact me with any questions by clicking on the "Email" button at the top of our listing. Cheers! Patrick Brys, Operations Manager
Went there with a group of friends. We are members of their wine club and got a complementary tour and tasting. Tour and wine were outstanding. The view from their new deck is the best. We were greeted by the owner, a very nice man.
Lovely grounds and facilities. The wine tasting room was a bit dark and the young male staffer was a bit pretentious. We felt he was less then attentive to us but very attentive to a young lady next to us. We sampled, then went upstairs for a glass. Much better service there. Great wine, a bit pricey. We would go back just for the deck view.
Not only is this a beautiful location with a new deck that extends right out into the Vineyards, they have excellent wines to choose from for a tasting and to purchase. It was another fun visit on this trip to enjoy the Fall colors. Recommend!
This was our 2nd visit to Brys. It is a beautiful winery in a stunning hilltop setting. The barrel room is a great spot to enjoy the tastings. The new deck has a spectacular view to sit and enjoy a glass of wine and a snack.
