Mount Pleasant Brewing Company's Tap Room is a bit off the beaten path about half a mile west of Business 127 on Pickard Road, the north side of the road next to the railroad tracks. It is a relatively small bar with a beer list made up exclusively of their own microbrews and a menu limited by Michigan law on tap rooms to sandwiches and a few appetizers. It is simply, pleasantly furnished and offers a weekly schedule of live music and a trivia game every Tuesday. I go for the beer, which includes the brewery's standard list of 6 ranging from a light golden ale to a stout. The specialty list is always rotating and growing as brewmaster Kim Kowalski experiments with interesting new recipes. My favorites include the Iron Horse IPA, one of their regulars and to my mind one of the best IPAs to be found anywhere. Their Train Wreck amber, brewed with maple syrup and honey, is one of their most popular statewide. Other favorites include their Bourbon Barrel Aged Train Wreck, their Bourbon Barrel Impervious IPA, and their recent batch of Belgian Tripel, but there is not enough space here to discuss their wide variety of wonderful brews. They offer something to tickle the taste buds of any beer lover, no matter their preference.
I've been to my fair share of breweries. But this one takes the top. Doesn't look like you're typical brewery and kind of hard to find. But it is a Gem!. The beer is top notch and the bartenders are great on recommending beers. You also get free peanuts. It's is definitely a micro brew fans kind of place. These people are experts in the craft.
