Experience the goosebumps of a real prison. Cold steel bars, hard uncomfortable mattresses, cold damp air, and the eerie feel of lingering souls in anguish.
This Museum/Park is a wonderful place for everyone. The Museum has interesting art displays that change several times per year. They also have classes for kids and adults. There is also a really nice gift shop to explore. The outside grounds are beautiful and in summer are great for hiking, soccer, baseball, cross country races and lots more.
You can go into the old farmhouse for a nominal fee and walk around the historic buildings. you can go into the granary restaurant or explore the inside museum. has alot of Jackson history stuff. place for kids to explore. also has a planetarium to go in. great place to go in the fall..they have a nice fall festival for the kids.
The is a lovely little museum with beautiful art to see. We were actually there for a wedding reception but we were able to wonder around the museum while the bride and groom took pictures. I was very impressed by the art work and the talent displayed. The staff was very good to us and the room that we had the reception is was just perfect. There is also "art" outside and a small log cabin.
I would recommend for kids and/or without kids. The entire park(museum, art, trails, etc..) is worth a long afternoon. I heard the planetarium is getting digitized in mid summer and that will be something to make a trip for. Most things are free and/or very inexpensive if they have a special feature.
lots to see and read about. History of jackson and our cars, outdoors art sculptures, nice resturant, planatarium , the Ella Sharp house to get a tour through. all this on a big park with ball fields and soccer fields and trails.
We visited the Ella Sharp Museum this past weekend. On our arrival, we were warmly greeted. We were extremely surprised with this great Jackson secret. The museum was very interesting. There were a variety of exhibits that were very well displayed. What a great treasure for the people of Jackson. We also were able to use the trails within the park area for snowshoeing. What a great place!
The museum is very nice and I have attended beautiful proms and weddings there. The gardens outdoor are nice, but they need to get the restaurant open again.
The engineering behind the children's play structures is more interesting. Save your time. Here's Jackson's compressed history: Grew into a large manufacturing city due to the auto boom and a state prison. However, the lowly skilled citizens became "entitled" and demanded unrealistic wages until all the decent paying jobs moved south or out of the country.
The Ella has so much to offer. Spring shearing, art; wine, beer, festival; fall festival; Christmas at Hillside are just a few of the events held at the museum. There are free lectures associated with exhibits. We in Jackson are fortunate to have an American Impressionist exhibit. Stop in and visit the Friends Gift Shop, many one of a kind items. Check out all the classes that are offered.
I visited here with my sister on our mini-vacation this year. The man who gave the tour ($3 for farmhouse tour) did a good job telling about the family history. The house itself is interesting and worth the visit if you are in the area.
A lot of good history on display. We enjoyed the stay. The plan was to stay later to enjoy the outdoor patio and music but the timing was not right.
The new exhibit at the museum is a Ringling Brothers exhibit. There are several modern galleries in addition to the antique house and grounds. There is The Granary-a restaurant with unique and delicious dishes. The grounds are huge with soccer, playground, tennis, walking, riding, etc.
What a gem ! I attended an graduation open house this past weekend and was amazed. There is the school house, the doctor's house was great and everything was so educational. I wanted to visit the planetarium but time was short. Since I have family in Jackson I do plan to spend more time at the museum. The open house was held in the resturant - The Granary-(after hours of course) and everything was so enjoyable. So if you need a place to hold an event - this is the place to go.
One of Jackson's little gems! Free parks, Museum, Planetarium, golf course and more! Ella Sharp hosts many free events as well- you should go!
