A very challenging course in a beautiful setting. Michigan golf at its best! Always look forward to playing this course each year.
I am a 'high handicap' golfer but don't let it deter me from golfing some really great courses.Yarrow should be on your golf list if you are in Michigan. The setting is incredible - a country setting with wildlife and great scenery. I think it is a tough course from the Men's tees - it helps (as always) if you hit it straight - but it is very playable from the women's tees. Only one narrow forced carry from the forward tees. The greens were consistent, the rough is punitive, and the fairways nicely mowed. There is a 'real' restroom on the back 9 - always a plus. The food at the grill was fine, but would likely just have a drink there and go into Kalamazoo for dinner. The proshop staff was very friendly and helpful. We played on a Sunday morning and were surprised that there was not a beverage cart out.
Great golf course with reasonable (not cheap) weekday pricing of $55. The "replay" option of $25 for a full second round of 18 after you finish the first is a good deal.Tee boxes and green were in good shape. There are some tough forced carries as well. Be prepared to lose some golf balls if you are not a straight hitter. The course is very challenging. Hole 1 is 500+ yards and goes downhill before going uphill. Marshals and starters were all very nice. The sandwiches at the lodge are very good and not a bad deal. We split a hot ham and cheese which was jammed with smokey ham and lots of creamy melted cheese. Fries were crispy and hot. Breakfast buffet in the main dining room is between 7 and 9 am - $10 for really excellent scrambled eggs - well they were almost more of a thin omelet folded on itself but definitely made with real eggs. pancakes, creamy and filling hash brown casserole and tons of crispy bacon. The usual continental cold breakfast stuff was available as well.We would return and stay at their lodging. Only downside is they don't have a pool.
Played here last week. No water on the course, complained at the turn, and still no water or beverage cart on a 80+ sunny day. No starter, and range was not open when we showed up for our early tee time. Ate at the grill, slow service and food that was not prepared as requested. After years of playing here, it feels like they are trying to cut corners and do not care about service. Some parts of the course also felt neglected.
I booked 2 nights in the resort after a referral. The rooms are small but clean. The feeling here is a older, rustic setting but with all the things we expect in a hotel. The menu at the lodge is lacking so expect to eat out if you're really hungry but the beer is cold and reasonably priced. The big surprise was the golf course. From the tips it's 7000 yards and it has some great elevation changes. This is a real challenge from the back tees! I'm from northern Michigan and this course feels like it's up north. Greens were in great shape and rolling at around a 10 on the stimp. Bunkers were in rough shape but other than that it's a gem!!
From the time we arrived to the time we left, every single person on staff at Yarrow was happy, pleasant, and helpful. My foursome played four rounds in three days. This is a tough track...don't let other reviews sway you into thinking that it is easy. Five sets of tees helps, but I am a 5.8 handicap and shot 85, 84, 83, 89 for the four rounds. And this was from the middle tees, which measures out to 6300 yards or so. There are several blind shots (mostly on approaches...which I'm not a fan of at all) and the greens are tough (several tiered greens with tons of slope). While the landing areas for most fairways are generous, the rough is absolutely brutal to play out of (3-5" thick bluegrass/fescue). You will understand what I'm talking about if you've played there before. All this said, the course is very nice. We had a storm go through one night with heavy rain and the course drained remarkably well. Fairways were pretty soggy in spots, but it was completely playable. Accommodations were basic, but our room was clean and quiet. I wholeheartedly encourage you to try this place!
Well maintained, gorgeous views, nice staff! A wonderful gem in the Augusta area with lodges to stay in.
A very nice golf course near Kalamazoo/Battle Creek that gives you an "Up North" feel, I was impressed with the course and the service/food, people were very friendly there. The course was in great shape, the course was fair to play, not to hard or not to difficult, several sets of tees to choose from. The lodging was ok, nothing special but nothing bad either, but you are there to golf and not sleep. The course is in the middle of no where, so make sure to bring everything you need.
This course has a Northern Michigan feel. Tall pines line some fairways and it's rather hilly. It reminds me of The Chief up north, which is another one of my favorites. We went during the week in September and it was rather slow, which was great. We weren't pushing anyone and nobody was pushing us. The greens are large and there are lots of tall grass, woods and marshes. If you are not a straight hitter, you better bring some extra balls. We had a great, relaxing day on this beautiful track.
We will never go back to this place, staff gave nothing but excuses...waited 25 minutes per hole to tee off. Called club house and got no action. Starters were rude, got you started but wouldn't do a dang thing about slow play.
We love this golf course. It is always very well maintained and very affordable. The staff is friendly and courteous. Great place for outings. The food in the bar is an upgrade from normal bar food. Great spot!!
I am not a golfer, but go for food. The restaurant sits above the golf course for a nice view. Food is so-so and menu is limited. But what a great place to sit out on the deck, have a drink, and share a meal. Facility has nice accommodations for overnight, parties, meetings. Lovely setting out-aways. Buildings are beautiful with overstuff furniture to sit on.
Very scenic, beautiful, green...and challenging! Easily one of my top three golf courses I've ever played. Pub overlooks the 18th green, so you can watch people come in while having a beer when your round is done. I can't say enough good things about the golf course at Yarrow.
The North Country Trail Association recently held their 4 day conference at Yarrow Golf and Conference Center with approximately 160 attending. Many stayed on site and all meals were provided (either bag lunches for hikers and off site activities or buffet breakfast/lunch/dinners in their dining area. This conference was planned totally by our volunteers but the staff at Yarrow made things work great and put up with all of our fumbling questions and requests. Very nice accomodations. I never heard a bad word from any of those attending regarding the rooms, food, meeting spaces, sound systems, etc. Good Job!I did not play golf, but the course is awesome
Excellent golf course. Very peaceful. No residential areas visible from course, only mother nature's best. Great variety of holes with elevation changes, short and long holes, water but not penal. Pro shop, lodge facilities definately have the lodge/resort feel. Course in always in good shape.
