My son is five and the Airzoo is by far his favorite place to visit. It's a no brainer for me because I love anyplace I can take him that is fun and educational. The flight simulators are insane. You truly do feel like you are flying! With the mix of rides, changing exhibits, and simulators - it's a different experience every time. If you plan on visiting more than twice a year it's definitely worth becoming members. The price is less than 2 individual visits and we go ALL the time!! Yesterday there was an engineering workshop which was awesome and also my son and his friend got to sit in the cockpit of one of their favorite planes!! I wish the hours were longer on the weekends and the check-in could be smoother but those are my only complaints. It's a must do when we have out of town guests.
There is something at the Air Zoo for every member of the family. It's the first place we take out of town visitors. We've been there for a wedding reception and other special events, as well.Easy to get to, the Air Zoo is just off I-94 at the Portage Road exit. There is plenty of convenient free parking. Check to see when they offer free admission promotions.
I visited this museum twice in 5 years. Both times spend the night as part of a scout lock-in. The museum has a great mixture of newer and older planes as well as a section devoted to the history of space travel. There are very friendly and knowledgeable tour guides on site that can answer almost any question about any plane. Besides the collection of interesting artifacts and airplanes the site also also includes several indoor rides and simulators.
Took all my grandchildren. They loved the rides Agee got simulator bands( unlimited) better value a play room short movies. Enough to occupy the kids for a while. Good outing. Price is fair
My family and I have gone to the Air Zoo several times. Of course, for young kids, the "rides" are a great draw. For adults, there is so much history and information here. Not only are there many airplanes, a few simulators, some 3D attractions and a snack bar, there are exhibits with wonderful history on all the wars including endless amount of artifacts. Depending on when you go, there are volunteers who can give you a personal tour. If you have children, I recommend two visits - 1 for the kids, and 1 for adults so you have time to really dig into the materials and information they have. We even saw a recovered airplane in the process of being restored by volunteers. Highly recommend.
They were short staffed so restaurant was closed a lot and some rides shut down. Poor planning for a President's day when kids were off school. Very disappointed.
Liked all the older planes and also the many rides for kids. Good selection of things to do for young and old.
We visited the Air Zoo on New Year's Day with our 2 year old. I wasn't sure how long he would want to stay, but he ended up really enjoying it. Neither my husband or I is very interested interested the aircrafts, but it was fun to walk around and see the different planes and their sizes. We would have enjoyed it more if there were more interactive exhibits as opposed to just reading the signs. Our 2 yo was able to ride almost all the carnival rides that are included in the regular admission price. He loved the one where he got to "drive" a plane. One of us was able to ride with him on all the rides, which was god because the seat belts would not have kept him in on their own! We skipped the tiger exhibit and the film.
Great facility. Might seem pricey, but I find it a good value if you can take in all it has to offer. See planes, read history behind them. Explore exhibits. Make sure to visit East campus. Generally the facility is not crowded. Place is immaculate. My son who is 7 loves it and we have great conversations about what it would be like to fly planes and the history. So, appealing to younger ones as well. You can get a lot done in an hour, but plan more like 4 to take it all in.
It has a very good collection of aircrafts. Do read the history behind them. The 4D show is good too. The main museum is good for kids looking for entertaining rides. I would recommend adults to visit the east campus. It has a few more aircrafts and a restoration workshop.
Spent 5 hours at the Air Zoo with my family (10 & 12 year old boys) over the Christmas holidays. I was expecting it to be crowded, but it was not. We got there around 10am, and it did start getting a little crowded around noon. The price is great for everything in the museum. The place is immaculate and the staff is nice. We paid for the tickets that included the flight simulator. The price of the admission is worth that attraction alone. The simulator is fantastic. You can roll, loop, and basically do anything that an acrobatic airplane can do. You're locked into an enclosed simulator (2 people) and have a screen in front of you and you actually go upside down as if you were in a real plane. It's very realistic. My husband is a pilot and loves the simulator. My kids couldn't get enough of it and you're allowed to do it as many times as you want. The planes that are on display are so nicely restored that it's great to look at every one even if you're not really into planes (I'm not). There was also a fantastic display on the women pilots in WWII. There were 2 4d movies that you could watch. We only had the chance to see one, but it was informative, educational, and touching. There are also some small rides for little kids (about 3-4 rides), included in the price. Once you have finished checking out the main museum, you can drive (or walk) to an annex in the back that has even more stuff. Ask the front desk for directions. It had several flight cockpits for the kids to sit in. There was a section where restoration was being done on a plane. That was neat to see. It seemed as if this was the 'warehouse' for a lot of the plane parts and older items.A must place to visit!
Very fun and full of history- could combine with Gilmore car museum for a transportation history tour. Awesome rides and displays. Easy parking and informative staff.
This is our third trip to the air zoo, we love it! Our boys are 3 and 7 and cannot get enough! It's a super clean place and the colors, structures, rides, and musuem are fantastic!
We really enjoyed the our time at the Air Zoo. There are indoor rides for the kids and lots of areas to explore. We especially enjoyed the aerospace section with the replicas of the original space vehicles. The lunch counter was fine, but I would eat before I went next time or pack a picnic lunch. The gift shop had the usual fare nothing very exciting.
The Air Zoo was fun. If you are a history buff and love airplanes, this is the place to go. They have a rare SR-71 Blackbird and man other planes from different periods. This is a fun place for kids, as there are rides inside the building. If you are into the mechanics of planes, the 2nd hangar has a shop where you can see the restoration of planes. Private flights in a biplane are available but they are expensive. The Kalamazoo Airport is next to the 2nd hangar, so you can sit outside and watch planes land. There is a nice walking path between the 2 hangars. Overall a great experience. You could spend at least half a day here...it just depends on how much you want to get into the detailed history shown around the building.
