Art Prize is spread across Grand Rapids, MI. It is connected with a bus system if you need it or want it, as parking can be a challenge because it is such a popular event! Artists come from everywhere to participate. I especially recommend visiting the Women's City Club Venue as they have a restaurant on site (award winning chef) as well as snacks (think home made cookies) which are a bonus in a busy day of art viewing. Variety of media is constantly changing. You may also want to visit the exhibit at Frederik Meijer Gardens, though that is there beyond the Art Prize dates so save it for after so you have time to see more of the other sites.
You can't see it all, but what you see is worth the trip. There are public and juried awards. I prefer the public awards, they are more to my taste.Creativity abounds.
We love to visit all the venues with our kids. Amazing talent from all around the world. We're so lucky to have this in GR.
Really fun event that is spread throughout the Grand Rapid's downtown area. Buildings, hotels, restaurants, art schools, churches, parking lots, etc. have all different media of art available to review. Stay at the Marriott Courtyard and you'll be right in the middle of it all. Also for a lux place to stay, the Amway also convenient especially to the convention center installations. Be sure to make the drive out to the Fred Meijer Gardens about 15-20min. away. FABULOUS.
Cleaver, creative, and full of surprises. Thousands of wonderful art exhibits hidden throughout town, all available over a three week exhibit. And you need lots of time to see them all. If it wasn't for the great maps and signage, you could never find all of them. But one of the best parts is that you can meet and interact with the artist for most of the pieces.
Take at least a week of vacation to attempt to see everything. Start loving the art, end loving the city. Amazing art adventure.
This is a great experience for all ages. You can see a much or as little as you want. Lots of walking or ride the bus. Lots of people but does not feel crowded as there are so many venues.
Art prize is a unique experience. Grand Rapids has so much to do, to see, and has great walking paths. If you ever get a chance, come to art prize. The art is wonderful and there are many, many excellent places to eat.
Very crowded! Not a place to bring young children although people do which means there are strollers all over the place. There is a lot to see, you cannot see it all.
This is a fabulous time of year for Grand Rapids. The artists are incredible. The talent and works of art offer a wide variety of mediums. The weather was beautiful and we were able to get to many of the exhibits.
Im not big on art at all, but my wife likes it so we go here every year. There are tons of creative projects around town and are easy and free to get to.
Grand Rapids has Art from head to toe during Art Prize. And it is all free to see! Even the museums are free and have Art Prize pieces in them. This city is warm and inviting. Great places to eat and hang out enjoying the art around you. Be sure to go the places that are tucked away, you will discover some great pieces there. I never miss a year.
I have been trying since 2009 to get TA too list this fantastic event. Don't miss it, Forbes magazine listed 5 events you should not miss in the WORLD forgot if it was 2013 or 2014. Art Prize was the only event listed in the USA.
Art Prize burst onto the scene a few years ago and was an immediate hit! The sponsors have been tweaking it and it's really attracting interest from literally all over the world! About 1500+ artists come from all corners of the Earth with their conception of Art. There is something for everyone. Scattered through the city in indoor and outdoor venues, you can view and experience at your leisure. Some of them will blow your creative mind! I recommend you book a room now so you don't miss out on all the fun this fall!
Travelers from allover come to visit the extensive exhibitions. I love the vibe and business of town also I feel that the quality of art presented at times is questionable. It is a great opportunity to have art in- and outdoors and linger in the -otherwise sometimes too quiet - downtown
