We loved this area! Beautiful scenery and clear spring fed pool stocked with fish! Ride the raft by pulling the cable to move the raft across the pool. Nice peaceful setting!
We liked Palms Book but did not find it to be anything special. We missed taking the ride across the pond and waited for awhile for it return but after more than a 30 minute wait we decided the group on the little ferry was in no hurry to return so we left.If you have a limited amount of time to spend in this area visit Seney instead as it is free and is much nicer to drive through the scenic lakes and lovely forest.
We were driving along the Lake Michigan side of the Upper Peninsula and decided to stop at Palms Book State Park without high expectations. We were pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the spring-fed pool. Visitors use a raft that moves along a cable to get from one end of the pool to the other. While crossing the pool, you can watch the spring water bubble up through the sand at the bottom of the sinkhole, which is about 40 feet below. You can also watch fish swimming at various depths. The pool is in a wooded area that is quite beautiful. Worth a stop.
This is one of those places you just must stop and see if you are in the UP!!! The clear waters and HUGE fish, let alone the depth of this pool are just amazing!!! Kids love this place!!!
this Michigan State Park is off the main road, US2, but is well worth the drive to visit the Big Spring known as Kitch-iti-kipi in the area http://www.exploringthenorth.com/bigspring/spring.htmlThere is a picnic area and a raft to ride across the spring.
Beautiful and breathtaking! Jump on the raft for a nice ride to see the underground springs. Such a neat place to visit.
This is a beautiful place. The crystal clear water and the surrounding woods is simply georgeous. It's a. Beautiful place to take pictures.
Kitch-iti-kipi, aka "The Big Spring" is amazing! It's so worth traveling off of the beaten path. WOW! You can see all the way to the bottom of the clear spring and watch the trout swim around and see the spring bubbling up through the bottom. The landscape is so serene. The wooden raft you can take out to the other side and back with an open bottom is so wonderful. This is a must see if you are visiting the UP! We could have stayed all day looking at the fish and watching the spring bubbling up. We visited during peak fall colors, so as an added bonus we were able to see the trees in their fall beauty as well.
Such a nice little park back in the woods. Beautiful this time of year with the fall colors. Quiet this time of year. Took the raft out over the Big Spring. It was fun because you guided the raft yourself. The water was so clear you could see to the bottom and saw lots of fish
If you are in the area a trip to the park should be a must. It is a wonderful adventure that I promise you will enjoy. Seeing the deep, crystal clear water with the springs bubbling up in fascinating patterns and the big fish swimming around is an experience you won't forget. We were lucky to be there first thing in the morning and had the raft all to ourselves.
couldn't believe this was free! Would have gladly paid for it! When we went there was no wait but I imagine the wait can be long when they are busy. Was very cool and our entire family enjoyed it! Was hard to find and we had to stop for directions.
The short trip on the tethered raft is well worth the time. You can see down in the water all the way to the 45 foot deep bottom. Lots of lake trout and brown trout to see in the viewing area from the raft. It's just a short walk from the parking area to the spring and is a delight to visit all year round as the water is a constant temperature around 42 degrees. We can't wait to go back this winter!
My kids and I love going and riding the raft and seeing all the springs and fish. My kids are constantly bugging me to go and they would go every day if I let them.
Told by friends to stop on our trip through the UP and it was well worth it. Beautiful and PEACEFUL spring with the clearest water. Self operated raft was great with a glass bottom to view the bottom and fish. Something you do not see anymore. Great for the whole family and children will love the experience. A place you wish you could sit back and spend a lot of time to contemplate nature and life..
Thought this was going to be tacky but this natural spring was awesome. Would definitely recommend it. You have to see this if you are in the U.P.
