I've been going here for the past couple years, to enjoy some time on the river. We've stayed at the Chippewa landing camp sites, and have had plenty of good fun both off and on the river.Camp sites are reasonable albeit a tad steep for what you get. ~$10 / night gives a whopping plot of land to camp/park, and a port-o-john. In reality, the $10 should at some point provide the use of a shower/bathhouse of some sort, but one can only dream. Also, the prices for tube/raft/canoe/etc. rentals is on the steep side as well, but I guess we can't complain too much, when Michigan tends to have interesting weather during camping seasons. Sometimes scaring people off due to whatever mother nature wants to throw at us.The camp sites are really quite pleasurable. There are some nice ones, right on the river, one more in the woods, and another set up on the hill side. All of which have plenty of space of the large groups I've been with.Despite what might seem to be steep prices, this is a pretty good deal for what its worth.
I took my parents on a lazy float trip down the Manistee River. We rented a raft which was just right for the three of us. We took the 2-3 hour trip and pulled out on a sand bank for a picnic lunch. We had a perfect day through pristine wilderness, lots of ducks and cedar waxwings as well as a couple kingfishers. Other options were tubes, kayaks and canoes. Paddles and life jackets were included in the cost. They shuttle you to the entry point of your choice (also included in the price) and you float back to their beach. Sunscreen and tshirts available for purchase in their store. They also have a campground. I would highly recommend this activity for anyone wanting a relaxing day on the river.
