A heated water feature was added to the feeding area which is viewed from inside the Visitors Center. Birds and small mammals can be seen and photographed. Varieties recently seen there are listed. Also, varieties seen elsewhere on the Nature Center property are listed at the front desk. The indoor viewing area is reached by walking throgh an area of educational exhibits.Another indoor area offers river views, and a spotting scope is there. There are extensive trails.Admission is free, but donations are accepted. Memberships are available.
I like to ride my bike to chippewa nature center. The river is so pure. I also enjoy walking inside the nature center and being surrounded by the big trees.
My family came to Midland for a night to see a minor league baseball game. It was lunch time when we got to town and I had packed a picnic lunch so we ventured to the nature center in hopes of finding a spot to eat. Boy did we pick the right place!!! It is breathtaking!!!!! The shelter houses are amazing and so many spots to just park yourself and relax. After lunch we went to the visitor's center and were blown away by all of the activities and information at the center. We walked around for an hour and realized that we will need to come back next year for an extended visit because there was so much to see. We walked along the water path and came to the frontier area and enjoyed the livestock that live at the center and the old pioneer buildings. So much to see and do!! Please be sure to check this out when you visit Midland and don't skimp on your time!! Nature at it's best!!!!!
Nice, paved, quiet bike trail. Helpful maintenance man who directed us to the maintenance shed so we could put air in our bike tires! Thank you!
Our family loves to go for hikes. The nature center is a great place to visit. We often take our cousins when they are in town!
I have had "knee issues," but I often used to run the long trail around the Nature Center, enjoying its beauty, variety, and peace. Occasionally I would see deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, a turtle sunning on a log in the river. Though the running days may be over, the trail is still a wonderful walk.
Lovely setting with lots of trails and benches just when you need one to sit and watch the river roll by. The area's history is very well done in the main building and their are naturalists there to answer any of your questions. The office staff is very helpful and very friendly and give you a lot of their time. You never get a brief, "don't bother me I am busy" kind of answer to any of your questions. On weekends the homestead and school house are usually open and staffed and you and your kids can get a lesson in the old one room, log school and walk down the lane to the homestead and see how people lived and how they worked and entertained themselves with no electronics! The Nature Center offers Day Camp for the kids in the summer months and the price is very good and the instructors are great. The Nature Center offers a nature nursery school. They offer a program during the fall and make Maple syrup that is for sale.Really a gen for the Midland county area. Schools make good use of it and have many programs for the school age children.
** The nature center is free but you have to pay for a birthday party.** You must have a yearly membership to have a birthday party but the $45 membership is a great deal!! My daughter just turned 4 and we had a party at the CNC. You choose from 5 different themes, they give you invitations, gift bags for the kids, a gift for the birthday girl (or boy) AND they do the decorating! The activities were fun for the kids (and adults) and kept everyone busy and entertained. We rented extra space for lunch and there was a full kitchen, they also clean up afterwards!! The staff is wonderful (Susan and Victoria went above and beyond) and the facility is amazing! I cannot say enough good things about our experience!!!
The Chippewa center and the trails leading to it are so beautiful. Don't make the trip to Midland and miss this great experience b
This place is amazing - they offer something for everyone year round - some of the things I have done with them is kayaking; night time walks; Easter egg hunts; pancake breakfast with local maple syrup - they offer many outdoor programs for all ages - wonderful family adventure
My family and I really enjoyed the Nature Center and all the daily activities they had available. We didn't venture out on the trails but it was still a good time nonetheless.
Lots of trails to wander on, a few old style buildings etc to see and of course plenty of wildlife. The center is really good and educational for the kids, go to the bird viewing area, when we were there is was packed. A huge turkey came in for 15 mins....
From nature trails to hands on exhibits, the Chippewa Natue Center is worth the local trip. Great place to spend the day with the kids!
This is a great place to explore and spend an afternoon with the family. Lots to do like nature walks etc. all year round :)
We walked from the H Hotel, over the Tridge, through the Chippewa Nature Trail, to the Chippewa Nature Center. A great 4 mile walk. The Nature Center is beautiful with one wall of floor to ceiling windows that juts over the Pine River. The presenter provided some background about the river and animals we might see and then encouraged us to explore the grounds. We took another trail to a maple syrup making demonstration and some older structures on the property. My husband and I really enjoyed it and will definitely return with our children this summer.
