This is a sweet little collection of historical buildings moved to a bucolic site alongside the river. If you're visiting the town of Northville, stop by for the short stroll through the village. It's not enough of an attraction to be a destination, but stop by the town for lunch.
Although we visited at a time that the homes were not open, it was still very pretty and very relaxing to just slowly walk around. The buildings are lovely and they have done a good job restoring them. Besides that, it's free!
I found this place by accident on the way to drop a package to UPS. Apparently this place has been well known to locals for the place to take engagement pictures and wedding ceremony. When we went there- it was saturday and the office was closed and all the buildings were closed but we were able to walk around the village and enjoy a little walk.It was well maintained and some part of the village was under construction.Landscaping was great! Pretty colorful flowers were in the gardens.I saw a couple taking an engagement picture there and a young teen couple dating before a homecomming dance. We are planning to visit there some time soon to take pictures.I really like the fact that it was not crowded and it was for free.Buildings are very classy and unique. The parking lot was for free also and pretty spacious. It is one of kind dating course that can make ppl comfortable and smile. There are nice restaurants within 2-3 blocks from this place also.
This is not a destination site, but definitely worth time as part of a day out. It adjoins a city park that contains a playscape and pleasant walking path along a creek; the combination creates a nice family outing. The village itself is comparatively small but beautifully laid out and landscaped. Unlike some other historical sites it has the feel of a real community rather than a collection of historic buildings; the buildings themselves are beautifully preserved. Mill Race Village is available for weddings and makes a lovely setting. Parking at the village itself is severely limited, but overflow parking can be found in the adjoining park. Building interiors are small, commensurate with their historical era; this should be taken into account if you're planning to use the village for an event. The Village is also walking distance to area restaurants.
This is a family park that happens to include some historic buildings, some of which you can enter. There is a creek running through the park and a children's play area. We have taken our grandchildren there a number of times. Mostly it is a comfortable place to walk and let kids play in a old-fashioned-looking setting.
This place is great. The grounds are kept up. The buildings are historic and educational. The gazebo is a favorite to stop and enjoy the moment. It is great in all seasons. Fun place to practice photography.
Kids love the imaginative playground and also feeding the ducks in the nearby pond and also include a lovely walk around the park.
This is a well preserved real life history lesson and a nice family excursion. I think it will be enjoyed by all ages.
I had the privilege of photographing a wedding here this past weekend and I have to say it was a very cutesy place. Everything is decorated in an old fashioned theme. The ceremony was in a little white wedding chapel which was pretty cool! The grounds of mill race village are very cool with a few different types of buildings which make great backdrops for any type of picture. It was a very cool experience for me. If you have some time and want to transported back to a different time check it out and it only takes about 20 minutes to walk through.
I had read the reviews and thought this might be a good stop for me while my husband was working in the area. First off, if you are coming from the north off of Griswold St, there is no signage. Turn right just across from Butler St. I'm sure that if they are open, (M-F 10-1) with docents and the buildings open, it would be better. However, I arrived a bit after 2, and although you can walk thru in a matter of minutes, I thought I would take some photos. The buildings were moved there in the late 1970's. It was nice, but not too exciting with all the buildings closed.
I used to be a docent there! It's a delightful collection of historical buildings, well kept by volunteers, well used for weddings, parties, local meetings, located in town, by the creek, plenty of parking. A quiet respite. Come see it!
Mill Race is an adorable little section of Northville that's easy to get to and walk around. If you go at the right time of year you can catch a lot of high school seniors getting some senior pictures taken. It's free to get into and has little descriptions in front of the old houses, chapel, school house, etc. It'd worth a visit if you want to revisit part of old time America.
Mill Race village is a nice quaint place to visit if you are in Northville. It may not merit a trip to Northville just for this - however, if you are in Northville already it's definitely worth stopping by. There's a good variety of authentic buildings to see ranging from church, school residence to blacksmith. It's also located next to a nice park and within walking distance to downtown Northville.
As others have stated, this is a mini-Greenfield Village with buildings from early Northville. There are usually docents in the buildings on Sunday afternoons in the fall and they provide a lot of historical information relative to the building and who owned it. Great place for school groups to tour. It is also a nice location for special photos (engagement) or events (weddings).
Fall cider and doughnuts at a Michigan Cider Mill ... it doesn't get much better than this! ... Expect lines on the weekend ... but it's worth the wait.
