The Golfing at the Treetops golf courses was beautiful and challenging. The fairways were so beautiful we wanted to have a picnick on them. The courses were in great condition.
We have golfed a few of the golf clubs in the Gaylord area and have not been disappointed except for one.....Black Bear......For the average golfer the very best course is the Gaylord Golf and Country Club just outside of the town.....it is extremely well manicured and is just a beautiful track.....there are lots of different holes and it is "mostly" forgiving.....the clubhouse and the facility is great....I would do this course on the first day of your trip to get into the grooveAt the Otsego Club the TRIBUTE is a must.....it is just outside of town and is a wonderful vista of elevation changes and beautiful holes......it is not easy but is well worth the visitThe newest TREETOPS course is the Masterpiece, the last course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr......if you are not a minus 10 handicap I would say the first 9 at this course will kill you....it is beautiful but far too hard for the average playerElk Ridge, about 45 minutes outside of town, is another you should NOT miss.....it is just a beautiful course built amongst lakes and trees and you can just enjoy the day.....the clubhouse is wonderful and the SANDWICHES are to die for.....go to this courseThe LOON is close to town too but is just an average track.....if you are not a good golfer youi might consider this one rather than the Tribute or the MasterpieceBlack Bear is one to miss
A must for golfers, was one of the best places I've ever golfed. very scenic. Great views , we will being going back for the fall colors.
Gaylord has some of the greatest golf courses in Michigan. A golfer can play every day for a week and play two courses a week and never be disappointed with the quality of the courses. I never understod why people called it the golf mecca until I took up golf a few years ago and now that I've played golf at a variety of courses I can understand why people want to come here.
20 courses that market together. World class designers. My favorite is the Otsego Club with The Tribute, a great "modern" course with fantastic views and The Classic, a wondeful 1950's country club course. Treetops has four courses and the world's best Par 3, Threetops, which is not to be missed. Other good courses as well. Can't go wrong for a week of golf. Good restaurants and lodging options - again The Otsego Club would be my first choice.
Beautiful area up North, so many golf courses, spots to eat out. Endless oppertunities for fun. Treetops, Loon and Otsego wonderful!
This is really a neat golf course but a few issues were a problem. We thought that 8:30 am was early enough to avoid the slow, not so good golfers......not! There were 2 groups of women in front of us who needed a lesson not a round. We counted 3 whiffs by one and most drove the ball only 75 to 100 yards. It took us 35 minutes to play holes one and two. Not being that patient, we went back to the pro shop and they put us off the back behind the mowers which was better than the latter. (This is not sexist...I am a woman). Of course when we reappeared at number 1 we were waiting again but the starters were great and put us in an empty slot. In conclusion, I would advise an early tee time because this place seems to attract beginning golfers because it is user friendly. The course was in good condition, the vistas spectacular, and everyone was polite and accomodating.
This course is great fun! Beautifully maintained and challenging for all skill levels. There is a lot of up and down play, some really dramatic holes where you hit off a hill down to the green below. We played it last year when we visited and really enjoyed it again this year.
Gaylord is the Myrtle Beach of Michigan, with such great courses as Black Forest at Wilderness Valley, The Loon: a Butch Harmon golf facility, The Natural at Beaver Creek and Tribute at the Otsego Club; just to name a few. Outstanding architects like Dye, Trent Jones, Ross and Faszio. Accommodations from hotels, to resorts to condos to vacation rentals and a picturesque northern Michigan backdrop, with an ideal summer climate. We're still the best kept golf secret in the country, at half the price of similar golf destinations. Say yes to Gaylord Golf Mecca!
This is not a single course but TA does not list most of the courses despite trying. It is a group of 17 courses in and around Gaylord Michigan. Some are good courses that are open with lower slope ratings to others that can be very frustrating to an average golfer.Tree Tops has Fazio and Rick Smith that are great courses that all could play and enjoy. The Masterpiece at Tree Tops can be frustrating especially with some of its blind shots.Black Forest is a challenging course for all levels of players but open enough so its quite playable.Michaywe Pines is fairly flat average course adorned with Pines and allows for 'spay' golfers to find their balls. It is also lined with homes.Elk Ridge is a tighter and challenging course, but again, the volume of pines make finding balls quite easy when you leave the rough and at times, able to paly out of (trees are in rows).Wilderness Valley is the easier of the 2 courses (Black Forest location) but still challenging. The key difference is this course is much more open than Black Forest and does not penalize golfers as much if they do not hit the ball where they wanted / needed to.I have yet to golf some of the others.
Why travel 1000 miles to Mrytle Beach the best golf is right here in the midwest
Treetops Golf:My husand and I played Threetops - Premier Course. The facilities and course are in excellent condition. We did not stay at there so can only recommend the course. Also played Threetops which is a lot of fun. Should experience it if you are in the area.Otsego GolfPlayed the Tribute Course. Enjoyed it but we were not as impressed as we were with Treetops.
