I played golf at Crooked Tree once in September and twice in October. The course has recently been re-designed, holes # 16,17, and 18. Although very challenging, the design overall is excellent and fun. The views of Lake Michigan and surrounding woods are spectacular, especially during peak color season. I strongly recommend this golf experience for all levels of skill (the forward tees are very forgiving).
Recent improvements to 16, 17, & 18 have made the course much fairer and more enjoyable to play. Maintenance has always been top notch and now it is much more enjoyable at a reasonable price for a great course.d
Golfed here on a golf package from Boyne Mtn Resort. A beautiful course with lots of challenges. Greens well manicured and a well maintained course. A few challenging blind shots make the round more exciting. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We had to switch days as the weather didn't cooperate and staff had no problem re- arranging our time. Would love to play this course again.
Great value, very well maintained, interesting layout, and without question the fastest golf carts I have ever driven.
Crooked Tree is a great course. Beautiful views of the bay on several of the holes. The course is challenging, but very fair. It's well maintained and the pro shop staff is very professional and helpful. We played this course as part of a package with other Boyne courses and also stayed in the cottages along Crooked Tree. The cottages were wonderful as well. Ours had 3 bedrooms. 1 was a master suite downstairs with a king bed, then upstairs there was a room with a queen bed and another room with 3 twins. Very clean. A great time on the course and hanging out with family for the weekend.
Played Crooked Tree with friends. Was very surprised and pleased to find it in wonderful condition. It looked as I would expect it in May, not past mid-September when we played it. The course had some beautiful holes and some fantastic views of Lake Michigan. A fun and challenging course. Worth going out of your way to play. Course personnel were very friendly and extremely helpful.
Extremely friendly and fun pro shop staff. Course is in outstanding condition. Fast golf carts. Beautiful Views of Bay Harbor. Fair Greens. Easily my favorite Boyne course.
This is one of the nine courses that Boyne either owns or manages. Many place it near the bottom of the list among which of the nine to play. I disagree. I have played all of them many times and each is unique in its' own way. Crooked Tree has a fair layout ( except for #17) a fair greens fee, beautiful varied views of woods and Lake Michigan, a caring staff, and is kept in great condition. The greens are tricky but readable, and if you can master them you are a very good putter. I would rate the Boyne courses in this order 1-9 : Bay Harbor, Alpine, Hills, Heather,Hidden River,Crooked Tree, Monument, Ross, and the Moors.
The golf course is very nice and they have very good afternoon and evening rates. You can tee off at 5pm and still get 18 holes in before dark. Some of the views from the tee boxes are spectacular. If you're going to play gold in the area, this is a very good choice.
My husband and I played here for an outing after a work conference. We ended up playing by ourselves, which is fine. The course was beautiful! It was really challenging too! You had many blind pin shots and had to carry over the tall grass and weeds often, at least 100 yards on many holes. We are pretty new to golf, and there were many holes where you had to lay it up because of the doglegs. I was happy i actually did pretty well at this. We had a great time and this course really tested us. The staff at the pro shop was great.
Cooked tree is a beautiful place to golf. Great scenery and very nice and friendly staff. It over looks the bay and is kept in pristine condition.
Course was in beautiful condition! I am just an average golfer and found it a bit challenging but not overly so.
The course was one of the only ones nearby that had a tee time that worked. Other reviews on golf sites said the greens were challenging, and complained about the number of blind shots. The course was in ideal condition, with smooth greens and lush fairways. The reports of the greens and layout were, unfortunately, true. If you play from the orange tees, you will have several holes where you have to carry 200+ yards over wetlands with scrub bushes just to reach the fairway. There is a lot of elevation change, sometimes between tee and green on the same hole. There are also several blind shots, which did not bother me as much as the forced carry holes. I wasn't playing all that well, and got frustrated when my ball repeatedly found the OB areas. There were no local rules posted regarding balls that did not reach the other side (like more than one of mine!), such as "two tries, and then drop". The greens were undulating and hard to read, and thus tended to ruin whatever good approach shots we made. I missed several reasonable par putts by inches. The couple I played with said they'd played here about 5 years ago, decided not to come back, and now remembered why. Some other reviewers said that you would do better on your second or third time playing here, when you know the course better. Personally, I am not sure I'd want to spend the effort when there are many other courses to try in the area.On the upside, the price is reasonable for the area, the views of Little Traverse Bay from the back nine are spectacular. Carts are included, as well as range balls and club cleaning when the round is finally, mercifully, over.
With great views sitting high over Bay Harbor, this golf experience was fabulous. Full service with club cleaning after the round and a nice grill. Only $60 after 2PM, course worthy of a larger price tag. Great experience!
We were extremely impressed with this golf course. It is in excellent condition from the fairways to the greens. Offering a varied terrain with many elevation changes it was fun and exciting. Players of all levels will find it demanding. We played on a Monday and had a very good pace of play. We enjoyed the dynamic challenges of its varied holes and liked it as much as we did playing the Bay Harbor courses a few years ago. Be prepared to play target golf on some holes and pay close attention to where the fairways end for several “drop off” fairway holes. The greens are almost impossible –lots of undulations! The Pro Shop person said they kept them slow because they are so difficult to putt. We agree! Golfers of all levels will enjoy this beautifully maintained course away from the crowds. It has some fantastic views of Lake Michigan.
