When I visited this winery with friends, it was fun and the wine tasted pretty good. However, I purchased a bottle, thankfully only one, of the 2012 Michigan Chardonnay unoaked. I opened it as a treat on Christmas day and it was awful. It had a bad smell, or I should say foul odor, the wine tasted terrible, sort of vinegar. Whatever you do, don't waste your money like I did. I had to dump it down the drain and I tried. Yuck. Stick with something else. I can see why they had it on sale by the case and am grateful I didn't buy a case. I wasted enough money on this. The attraction is nice and other wines were fine, just don't buy the 2012 chardonnay.
Nestled along the rolling hills on the way to Petoskey, the winery is a new attraction. The vineyard is only two years old, but Mackinaw Trails has been in the business for a good while. We recommend the Big Red for casual food, the Pinot Gris as the white, and any of the Cabernet blends for a gorgeous dinner. The store has great wine tasting, and pair it with the sumptuous bruschetta. The balsamic drizzle is to die for. Check out the Michigan gifts as well.
My wife and I had the pleasure of stopping in to re-stock the wine cellar and low and behold we were introduced to a flight of their home brewed craft beers. I really enjoyed the stout! I can't wait for their personalized beer growlers! For a complete list of what they produce I suggest a visit!
This lovely little winery (now serving beer as well) has a great selection of wine and brews to choose from. The staff are very informative of the wines and beer that they sell! Everything I tasted was delicious especially the Pumkin Face beer (I forgot exactly what it was called) and the Strawberry Rhubarb wine! Great little place!
We'd been hitting quite a few wineries across the UP on our road trip to MI. My Mom recommended we stop here, but the one in the UP. After seeing they actually had the winery closer to our resort, we stopped there (just south of Petosky). WOW!!! We had the most wonderful time wine tasting, having some food, and chatting with the owners daughter (Kristi?). Also met Sarah, the families golden retriever. Mike helped take care of us also. Just a really relaxing, enjoyable time.Beautiful location and wonderful wine!!! Walked away with a case of their wine, which we needed like another hole in our head. ;-) If your near any of the three locations I'd highly recommend stopping.
I went into this winery with friends for some tasting. Only two of us chose to taste and informed the staff person. He put a wine glass in front of each of us, and then walked away. We sat there for about 10 minutes, without service, and then we got up and walked away. Unfortunate, as they were not really all that busy either.
It was a great time to sit with friends and taste a few samples of wine. The server was pleasant and engaging. The wine was reasonably priced. Fun thing to do on a rainy day. It is $5 for tasting but you get to keep the glass.
We wre traveling through Petoskey on our way to Mackinaw. We stopped in Petoskey to try the beers at Beards Brewery but they did not open until 3pm. One of the store owners recommended checking out Mackinaw Trail Winery. We sampled several different wines and they were all very good. I especially like the fruit wines. It was a tough decision as to which oune to buy, but we ended up purchasing a bottle of their Cranberry wine.
So, we went up to Petoskey for a wedding. On the way into town we spotted a winery.... we shrugged and said if we had time we might have to stop in there.... well we had time. Between the Saturday lunch events and the wedding itself we had an hour or so to "kill" so stopped off at this winery and aside from the wedding, was a great memory of our quick trip to the UP. The sales guy.... Jeff (or was it Mark?), was helping out and he took the 4 of us through most of their wines. Even the port and ice wine. WOW, not a bad wine in the house, with some actually outstanding ones. We took home two bottles of ice wine plus a bottle of port. And we had some food as well, appetizers that were great. But the people were so friendly and helpful. The wine excellent! We stayed as long as we could but that darn wedding called. If you are in this area you must stop by and visit. Tell them you heard about them from some people in Georgia who just happened to be up there for a wedding.
We were here on a whim to visit a winery in the area. We were very pleasantly surprised with the wine tasting and they had a lunch menu. The chicken salad sandwich (you can also have it served on a salad) had cherries in it from the area - it was the best I've tasted. Great variety of wine samples and produce for sale. You could pay $5.00 for 5 wine tastings and keep the glass. If you return with the glass- or to their other locations, wine tasting is then free. (we took advantage of that in another of their locations). The wine tasting / lunch counter / product area was very large and I was impressed with the cleanliness. It is a family run business and we enjoyed talking to them and hearing about how the winery started. They also provided us with a tour and their plans for expansion.
