we had gone in just to have something to do and ended up learning things and about michigan people in the military and the importance that some played in our military
I expected a museum filled with relics from wars: models of ships, planes, perhaps some old guns or military memorabilia. But what we saw was something completely different. Before you enter the museum, there is a small sign that says something to the effect of, "We do not glorify war in this museum."I found myself moved to tears so many times in this museum. It's so easy to hear numbers on the news of casualties but when you see names, faces, childhood photos attached to these numbers it makes it so real and touching.I wanted to see the entire museum out of respect for our fallen (and surviving), but I couldn't do it. Next time.
My parents have lived 40 minutes from this museum for the past 60 years and I never knew this place existed. Why isn't this fantastic facility better advertised? This simple and unassuming building houses a fabulous collection of exhibits honoring Michigan's military heroes. It contains over 400 displays, including 30 individual Medal of Honor recipients, making it the nation's Medal of Honor collection. I had the chance to explore the museum's storage rooms, which were stacked with artifacts from hundreds of other servicemembers. The museum doesn't have the room to display it all. If you want to honor our veteran's and ensure all of there stories are told, this place needs your support.
Dear Patrick,Thank you for the kind words. It was my pleasure to show you around the museum. I am very glad that you were able to enjoy your visit. I also hope that you were able to take in a few of the many other fine sights in Frankenmuth while you were here.
An impressive little museum with exhibits telling the stories and experiences of several Medal of Honor holders and other heroes from Michigan. Nice displays of personal uniforms, medals, weapons, and memorabilia. The model ships and aircraft are amazing. Take your time and don't rush - there's a lot of history there. Well worth a visit.
As frequent visitors to Frankenmuth for chicken dinners, we hadn't noticed the museum tucked behind the bigger Bronners and later the Splash Village. A friend wanted to stop to see if her father's uniform was still on display. This was about a year ago. Our family has now stopped by several more times, showing our grandchildren Michigan's role in the world wars, Korea, Vietnam as well as involvement in the space program. This museum is a hidden jewel for young and old. It has opened a dialog with members of our family for my husband to discuss his experiences in Nam with the Marine Air Wing. The last visit was the Frankenmudder where we cheered on another friend who decided to test her endurance in the race.
All about real people in service. There are huge glass cases with their uniform attire, guns used, letters and much much more. Personnally, my Grandfather's uniform is there, he was a Polar Bear in Russia during World War 1
Almost missed it but worth looking for. They are growing and serious about their mission. Friendly and informative staff.
The artifacts at the museum are pretty cool, but what is even cooler are the stories of the men that used the artifacts. There is even a astronaut section in the back that has all the astronauts from the state of Michigan. The little ones may be bored rather quickly so use discretion with them.If you are really into history or are looking to find a few hours fill in Frankenmuth, this is a great spot to check out!
Very well done with very caring people running it. Great lessons & great information. My 13 yr old loves to come here. Every few months some of the displays change.
Once again, we decided to visit this place based on the Tripadvisor reviews. It is a hidden gem, indeed. I feel bad for not remembering the name of the host, as he made out visit very informative. He was eager to show us different artifacts and to tell us stories about it. You can tell he loves his job, and loves to share his knowledge with the guests. This place deserves more marketing and more space, and that gentleman deserves a medal for his passion. Thank you, sir!
My husband took the husbands here for a guys afternoon. Said it was extremely well done and priced right.
From the outside this museum looks quite small and one might not expect exactly how much history is obtained within. Showcases tell the story of modern armed conflict and space exploration on the human level of combatants and astronauts who hail from Michigan. Reading through and looking at each showcase as the story of one person is haunting and awe inspiring. A must see on any trip to Frankenmuth. Patriotic and historical. An excellent learning opportunity.
It is a neat place to visit. They do a great job at honoring the men and women from Michigan who have served. My boyfriend is very into aviation and he loved it here!
I went with my 2 young teenaged kids. We spent about 45 min here. The museum is is quite small, there are show cases of men and women who did service in the military that were from Michigan and their story. Alot of reading if you take the time to read each one. The kids were into it at the beginning but got kinda bored as we got about half way through.
