Arcadia valley has so many things to recommend it. It has a civil war battlefield, some very nice bed and breakfasts including one that is a very large and beautiful historic school, convent and church; some outstanding restaurants; and is very close to a great many things that are highly interesting to visit, including Johnson Shut Ins, Elephant Rocks, and Fort Davidson, to name a few. "Thee Abbey" is my favorite restaurant. Their bakery goods and home made ice cream are to die for. We routinely go through Arcadia Valley on our way to the Scenic Ozark Riverways to go on float trips in canoes- it is also close to the Karst topography that is the origin of some of the largest freshwater springs in the world. This region is very interesting geologically as well as historically, not to mention beauty spots like Taum Sauk mountain. Fort Davidson has Civil War reenactments that are highly interesting and educational.

We hit perfect weather for wildflowers, redbud, and dogwood trees April 22-26. Good hiking at Taum Sauk State Park and lunch by cascading Mina Sauk Falls. Elephant Rocks State Park was great and handicap accessible. Great new visitor center at Johnson's Shut-In State Park. Our KatyDid cabin at Dragon-Fly-In B&B was a great home away from home! A great trip for us not so far from home.

For some reason Arcadia Valley Cabins in Ironton Missouri is not on TripAdvisor, so this will have to do. We went to go hiking at Elephant Rocks park but it rained the whole time-- no biggie! The local museum is charming, Historic Fort Davidson was a fantastic visit, and Rubles, the local meat store/smokehouse, had really super treats (the cabins are a bit of a drive from the stores so plan well). Since the Arcadia Cabins have a fully equipped kitchen, we read, watched movies, and put puzzles together for two days. Perfect. If you're coming from St Louis, stop at the Missouri Space Museum in Bonne Terre-- wow! Doesn't look like much on the outside but inside it's a gem! We did not use them but the cabins also have a pool and washer/dryer.

If you are a Civil War Buff, the Arcadia Valley provides a view of how important this regioon was to the conflict on both sides.

We walked the park at Elephant Rocks - I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the park. It is a really neat park & beautiful to see. Johnson Shut Inn is worth the trip - the visitors center was very helpful.

My husband and I brought our 12 year old grandson to Arcadia Valley for spring break 2011. We stayed at the Big Creek RV Park in Annapolis, MO and that was tops! The people that own that were very nice, helpful and accomodating. The park is great, easy in/out access by a creek. My husband and I plan on returning there this summer just to enjoy the area and relax. A definite 10 on my recommendation list.We booked our trail ride at the Arcadia Valley Stables. Another 10 on my score! We went for the 1/2 day trail ride. The trail went along the river and through the woods through the property to an area they had pre-planned for the lunch stop. There was a picnic table there and the lady at the Plain & Fancy Bed and Breakfast had made homemade fried chicken that was yummy and some homemade cookies that were melt in your mouth! Also provided was potato salad, cole slaw, rolls and drink. We then were provided fishing poles and bait and were able to do fun fishing in the pond. After that we rode back. Spotted 2 Blue Herons up in the tops of the trees in their nests. I had never seen that before. The day was perfect! I would highly recommend this place for a super fun time. We definitely had one!Nancy BrewerCarthage, Missouri
