civil war museum

Great way to learn about Carthage's rich history during the civil war. It is a small single room but it packs a lot of information and the employees are always nice and knowledgable.

We have been in large and small ones but this one is worth a visit. Also included info on Belle Starr and local people during that era.

Living in SW Missouri we are visiting as many of the civil war sites as we can this fall. This was a great place to stop and see. It's small, but the exhibits are great. Much information about the area and what went on during the war. We enjoyed visiting with the docent. I'm sure we will go back when we can spend a little more time. My favorite parts were the model cannons.

My 3 year old and I were killing time waiting on his grandparents. He was so excited about the diorama that he had to show everyone.

I work near the square in Carthage and had no idea this place existed until I saw it while walking through the square to get some coffee. There is no fee, but they accept donations. I only had an hour lunch break, but it took me only 25 minutes to go through the entire museum-- that's without reading everything, but skimming. The staff was friendly and let me walk around with my coffee.Though there was a display light that was out, the tv presentation wasn't on, and the top of the walls were shedding, I would recommend anyone to stop by this little museum. I learned a lot about bushwackers and interesting local history I knew nothing about. The artifacts were in good condition After the visit, I felt more connected to our past.

Small but nice museum filled with art and local Civil War history. If you are in the area it is a great place to stop in and walk around a bit. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful, great little local museum!

The Civil War Museum in Carthage is not real big, but there is quite a bit to see and read. The museum shows the role Missouri played in the war. You will find out about other battles in the state and what led up to "The Battle of Carthage". Check out the large mural on the wall as you enter. There is a short video to go along with the visit. The gentleman at the museum was very informative and friendly. There is no admission, but donations are welcome.

I am a Civil War buff and this is really close to home. I never get tired of going through the museum and seeing everything they have, reading the articles and browsing through the literature available

As others have said, the museum is small but nicely presented and very informative, especially as Carthage was related to the Civil War. I had no idea that Carthage suffered as it did. I think this little museum is a jewel. There is a seven minute video presentation that unfortunately is shown over a television screen with less than good audio. I do wish that feature were improved; nevertheless, I still think that this museum is a great discovery.

This museum is small, but has so much to offer. Several pieces on display from battles, story behind the petticoat flag and a large re-inactment table. There is no charge to go but donations are welcome.

This is a great little museum. Interesting displays and paintings by Andy Thomas. It is small, but it is well worth stopping by. The beautiful Carthage courthouse is right around the corner.

As a CWB, I enjoyed the fact that Carthage has a Visitors Center dedicated to the battle there in Carthage. The docent was very knowledgeable and helpful. The Video presentation was very good. The store had a rolled document with a timeline of the civil war that I find very helpful.

I had no idea that the Missourians stand in the Civil War was so wishy washy. Most didn't have much reason to stand on either side. A remark in the museum alluded to the fact that Missourians were rebels and that is why many joined in the war. The museum itself is full of memorabelia and fasinating facts. This is well worth stopping by. The museum is on a donation basis.

This museum is small, but, boy is it stocked with Civil War memorabilia...especially of the local area. The docent there, too, who sits at the front desk, is knowledgeable to any questions asked. This museum made for a lovely, historical stop.

Lots of pictures and paintings. Really puts it in prospective to make you realize what actually went on at Carthage.
