This museum has move into a larger space and has great exhibitions both inside and out. One area allows visitors to try on some of the gear from recent military conflicts. Great for both children and adults.
First, Disregard any older tripadvisor reviews about this being boring or not for kids. The National guard just did a tremendous job with this newly remodeled and expanded Museum. Young as well as old (grown up kids at heart), will enjoy these closeup exhibits. Check out their facebook website: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Museum-of-Missouri-Military-History/309457984679Second, It's FREE and very educational
The newly remodeled and greatly expanded Museum of Missouri Military History is a must see in Jefferson City. It is a few miles east of Jefferson City in the National Guard Complex. The guards will direct you to the museum which is easy to find ... just look for the tanks and fighter jet in the parking lot. Inside the museum are artifacts from all the wars. I took a ten year old boy who likes the military and he was very impressed. So was I. He borrowed my camera to take dozens of photos of the exhibits. This is a first class museum. It is free.
My 13-year-old grandson is very interested in American history - especially the WWII era - so when he was visiting me for a few days this summer, I knew we had to include this museum on our "to-do" list. I'm so glad we did! He loved it - and I enjoyed it as well! Although the museum is small in size, it's big in what it offers. There are displays for every skirmish or all-out war that the U.S. has ever been involved in. The displays include a written history as well as weapons, sometime uniforms and other memorabilia from the era. Our favorite part of the museum is table piled high with different uniforms worn by our military that you can try on. My grandson donned the uniform currently worn by our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan and was surprised to learn that between the protective wear, water pack and ammunition, they are lugging around an additional 86 pounds in the hot desert. We were there for about an hour but you could easily spend twice that if you chose to read every display. It's even a little more interesting because it's located on the Missouri National Guard base so you get to see some of the vehicles, etc. while driving thru the grounds.
but for older patrons this is a great place to visit. It has a lot of things on display and some interactive exhibits as well. I enjoyed it but did see some very bored kids. lol.
Free attraction for military history. This museum is located at the Missouri National Guard Grounds and has a nice display of artificates. It is not very large and you can go thru in an hour.
Was smaller than I expected, but amazing bits of history. My son had a great time too. It was interesting to him to be able to touch the civil-war era uniforms and compare them to today's. He also enjoyed trying on the packs and gear current soldiers use when deployed to combat. The guide (currently active duty MO National Guard) was knowledgable, informative, and spent a good amount of time answering questions and explaining the exhibits. Wonderful experience and memories!!
The place was smaller than i expected, but still had great arifacts. It was a bit hard to find seeing as it is on a training facility. Overall nice to see history!
