Wonderful Gallary. There are numerous shows throughout the year. Amazed at how many local artists there are in the area and the talent that comes in and is displayed as well as collections from so many others. Nice gift shop area. The upstairs classroom area is very nice. We are now following the schedule so we can make sure we keep up with the different opportunities this place offers.
LOVED the art . Ive been many times and each time it was fantastic! It is definitely worth the cost. You HAVE to go.
We are going to be in Joplin on May 10th and again on May 18th and 19th and were most disappointed to discover that there will be NO exhibits whatsoever available on any of those dates. Their most recent exhibits ended in April and on May 4 and they said that nothing at all will be available to see until May 20th. That seems like a very long time to be without any exhibits at all.
took my granddaughter and there was very educational exhibits for us to see. We enjoyed looking at the art and sculptures.
We ended up in the art show by default. We where lost. The desk lady not only told us about her own place, but told us about 2 other things we might be interested in. A quilt show and Grand falls. The show in the place was wonderful, diverse in it's medium (ceramics this weekend) and a fun 'default'. One of our funnest stops all weekend, and a wonderful desk lady. Thank you to her and kudos to SPIVA.
Spiva had a powerful showing that portrayed the Joplin tornado in 2011. It had positive imagery, as well as, flashbacks to that horrific day. That exhibit was a way of remembering what we lost, but grateful for what we had. I look forward to all the up coming openings.
Spiva has been with Joplin over 65 years and has incorporated cultural mediums both regionally and nationally. What I love about this fabulous place is the staff and volunteers that run this beautiful venue. Classes are offered for both young to adult. A benefit for visiting these galleries is the availability to experience new art every time the exhibit changes to the next one as well as visiting the gift shop. They always have special events going on and having the perk of both individual as well as business has many advantages. I have had the privilege to meet the gallery artists and take home the cultural experience I cannot get anywhere else. The price is so worth the year-round benefits and it is VERY affordable to be a part of this benchmark in Joplin's development.
Historically and contemporaneously, the visual arts anchor in Joplin. Large range of exhibits and classes for kids. Interactive components, kind staff and volunteers, and a beautiful gift shop carrying local and regional art to purchase (buy local!). It's free and family-friendly, and just downtown near a coffee shop and great local restaurants. Check it out, you won't regret it!
I loved the Spiva Museum. Interesting art from some of the local artists. If you don't have much money and you love art, this is something that you can go see. Fee is none, but they ask if you like it to please make a donation. I don't mind doing that at all. You will enjoy the art and the help there are very nice too.
The first time I visited Spiva Center for the Arts I thought "wow, this place could be in Chicago or any other large city!" With 2 galleries on the main floor and an upstairs rental gallery, there is plenty of art to see and experience. The gift shop offers a great way to support regional artists and gave me some gifts for special freinds too. I'm impressed by the quality and variety of artists that Spiva features with its exhibits. I'm a fan!
I love Spiva. I've taken a couple of classes there and have attended several openings. They bring in some amazing, cutting-edge art. There is also ample opportunity for folks from the community to enter their works of art in various competitions. It feels like it is very community-based and accessible.
Founded in the 1950's by Joplin's patriarch, George A. Spiva, this art center features shows and exhibits of some of the finest and most diversified artworks and photography in the Midwest. The Center offers quality of life opportunities to families, children, and seniors featuring all mediums and styles of the visual arts. Mr. Spiva was very concerned that the children of Joplin and the region would be given the opportunity to experience art and to learn about all types of art and photography. Numerous classes are offered to the children of the region to experience and create visual arts first hand. A full schedule of exhibits, shows, and classes is shown on the Center's website at www.spivaarts.org
