I was traveling for days, and saw this was an actor action not too far out of the way, so I made it a destination before the final destination. It was very cool with lots of relics antiques, and best of all some of Jesse James and friends gun collection. I love guns so I found it very cool. There's a movie which I stayed to watch, and another that wasn't showing while I would be there. It's cool but doesn't take too long to go through the museum and see things. Good half a day adventure to be had by most people.
If you're a fan you will find this interesting. Small museum, a walk about around the farmhouse. Very little original left. It continues the James family tradition to make a buck on the Jessie James name. Light hearted, take it all in with a grain of salt.
Visiting from UK. Nice visit, truly. Good to see somewhere that we only usually see in films and stuff. It's a good day out, kid friendly and pretty informative. The video presentation at the start is well put together as it the layout of the whole place. One little kind of in-joke from [us] visiting Europeans is that the place dates back....way back to the 1860's (!) with some of the furniture....we find that pretty amusing because some of our houses are that old in regular living areas...but - hey! we're in the States - this is heritage from a relatively young country and when visiting we do respect that. Guided tour was good, fun and informative and reflected on the video as a measure of events.Kids would enjoy too
Jesse lived down the road from my ancestors the magills. So it was doubly interesting for my sister and i. The docent was so knowledgeable. Go and learn about Jesse and his family, particularly his mother. Omg!!!! Interesting day
Enjoy taking our guests to this attraction. The history gives you insight into the events of the time that caused the acts of violence of the outlaws and the lawmen.
All tours through the house are led by an historic interpreter as part of the tour which consists of the 20 minute film and three galleries of artifacts.
I really enjoyed this place. They have a brief but informative movie to familiarize you with Jesse James life. Then we were taken on a walking tour of the property. The tour guide was friendly and fun. The house was full of furniture and things owned by the James family. They also had a small museum of James family memorabilia. It was a nice little stop on our way to Kansas City.
I love history and my husband's And I visit outlaws graves all over. I knew his grave was not here but went anyways. Don't know why people complain about no pictures allowed in tje house there's nothing worth taking a picture but very intetesting. I will bring kids back.
Still wondering why we all love the outlaws, but i suppose that is just hollywood. Working locally at a nearby auto plant and had the weekend off. Musuem has many very interesting artifacts, all well represented . Introductory video was very good. 8 dollars for adults, includes guided tour of the James homes.
Museum is well done and has quite a few items belonging to Jesse and Frank. The introductory video was good. House still has old wallpaper, etc. thus the dust and mold alerts. I wasn't bothered, but the friend I was with had to go outside. I thought the tour was interesting. Although the house has some electricity, tour guide used flashlight to highlight items - that was a little odd. As my dad always said, If Jesse had kept his back to the wall, he'd still be with us! Nice gift shop, too. Mrs. James sold rocks off Jesse's grave for 25c to tourists. The gift shop continues the tradition - and at the same price.
For the Jesse and Frank James buffs, this is the must see. The James family has given their artifacts and material to this museum located on the site of the James family farm. From the rifles, saddles, and etc to the James farmhouse, it is all authentic. The museum staff are very knowledgeable.
The museum displays were well done and the video was very interesting. I was glad we were able to view the video first as it provided a lot of the background information. The grounds were well-kept. The tour of the home was interesting, but the home (as expected) is a dust and mold haven. Not sure there is a good answer for that as they need to preserve the structure and furnishings at the site.
The video and display were interesting and well done, but the actual tour of the home was a little tedious (repeating what we had already seen and heard) and was guided (we had to wait and stay with the guide). ALLERGY ALERT: The home had mold!!
we stopped here on our way through as a side stop.although i wouldnt drive out of my way to go here, i am glad that we stopped since we were passing by anyways. ( we stayed in kerney on the way from mn to branson)
About 40 minutes north of KC so a little out of the way. An important museum to understanding the history of Kansas and Missouri 1850-1890. The house (portions of it) are in need of serious repair. The Museum exhibit is ok, but in need of expansion and a little more interpretation. Small gift shop. It needs support and has potential to be a good historic site, but still a little ways to go. More for the person who is either a Jesse James buff or someone who has hit most of the key areas already in the KC area.
