Title says it all. Pricey and unfriendly. Mean old man runs the joint and could care less how he treats the folks that pay the bills.Boats are new and nice but I hate spending money with someone who acts like him.
We rented a pontoon for a family reunion. Our "only option" - so they claimed - was to rent for 24 hours, even though we only wanted an hourly rental. We paid the extra for the 24 hour rental. We anchored the boat in a calm bay so that we could swim. After a couple of hours we noticed the rope to the anchor floating in the water. The anchor had come off. We returned to the dock only to find they had locked up, so there was nobody to help us, and nobody answering the phone. When I called the next day to report, they told me they would charge me for the anchor! I argued them out of charging me for the anchor, but they refused to refund any of our money even though our boat trip was cut short and we were put in a DANGEROUS situation.
We called ahead to be sure one of the pontoon boats was available, and on this August day there were several. We made a credit card damage deposit of $200, and the rental rate was $60/hour with a 2-hour minimum. Operation of the boat was thoroughly explained, life vests were provided, and in our two hour rental we used about $13.00 in gasoline. It was a nice ride on the lake, with water warm enough for a swim and clear enough to see 10 feet or more in the lake water. There is also a houseboat rental place next door with line-new houseboats, and next time we're in the area, we will certainly take advantage of that as well. A fun afternoon in only two hours.
We got a pontoon boat for 23 hours and paid about $200 less than other places at the lake. The staff was very friendly and informative.
We rented a pontoon boat for the day and our experience was a mixed one. Good: The owner agreed to honor a 10% off coupon although it really was for a different section of the marina. Bad: The gentleman who got us situated on the pontoon was often impatient and rude with our questions. Example: We asked approximately how long it would take to make it over to the state park and his answer was, "Now why would you want to do that?" Bad: All of the boat's storage areas were very dirty and obviously hadn't been cleaned in a long time. We had to put down layers of paper towels and brush away spider webs and bugs before putting anything in them. Good: The boat operated very well and we had a great day. Bad: We specifically told them we would want to use the grill but we found out later after a lot of frustration that it was NOT operational. (It was filthy too, by the way.) When we suggested that they comp us the last gas tank refill (about $30) for the inconvenience of not being able to eat our meal out on the lake as we had planned (which cut our evening of boating short), the owner refused. Good: He called back later and said he changed his mind. Good: So far we have not been charged anything except what we expected to pay.I'll let the reader decide if using this company is worth the potential negatives.
We paid cash for a rental to get a cash discount and then after we left they charged our credit card! Paying twice for a boat is not right!! They would not even reverse it when I called them. Scammers!!
We rented a boat for a week. On the second day, the crap equipment they rented us broke down in the middle of the lake. Hours later, they brought us a smaller, less horse powered boat with a promise they would "adjust the invoice" when we returned it.That was a lie, and they refused to do anything for us, citing the contract we signed. Horrible, horrible customer satisfaction skills. Once they have your money upfront, you are screwed. DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!
