While it was interesting to be in a place where history happened, I think this one might be a bit overpriced. It costs $6 per person to see a "museum" that amounts to one room plus a small room of reading materials. The story is interesting, though, and the lady who told the story did a nice job. Here's a hint for you. We found a buy-one-get-one coupon at couponsforfun.com. I just did a Google search on "coupons for Jesse James Bank Museum," and several popped up.
I just got a new camera when I went and this place provided me with some good shots! It had a good story and a historic interior.
The very first recorded Bank Robbery in history! Put yourself in the bank during the late 1800's, a small place, not like the Mega-Banks of today. Look out the windows and imagine Liberty, MO during that time.A small group of horsemen wander in, warm by the stove and suddenly pull guns and demand the banks money! This has never happened before, What do you do?A well rebuilt replica of the bank, on the original site and building. Many original artifacts, all furnishings time period correct with a couple minor modifications. The presentation was very interesting and informative. Standing in the exact area where it all happened, you could let yourself be taken away and picture the events unfold. This is a privately owned historical site, so there is a fee for the tour, $6.50 Adult $3.50 under 12. I thought this was a little much at first, and maybe so, BUT, This is history that is interesting and would not be here for us to enjoy without monetary support.Part of a day trip, See this so you don't say, Gee, I should have.
Story very well told!! The bank was neat and clean - the many photos and newspaper articles were interesting, informative, and very well displayed.
While I'm not sure I'd pay $20 for my 3 kids and I to see it again, it was very informative. The guide was a very good storyteller and did well at bringing us to that day. Putting us behind the counter to give us a sense of the goings on from the bank personnel was great! That was much better than seeing it thru a Plexiglas wall, as a big museum would have done!
If you're into James Gang history definitely stop by. There's not much to see if you're not into history, but we have enjoyed visiting here a couple of times. Staff is always friendly.
My 8 year old son and I stopped here one evening. It was just the two of us, but the tour guide did a nice job presenting information and letting us look around. I think it was a little pricey, but good for about 45 minutes.
Not really sure what we were expecting, but this tour was pretty cool.. It is really small, kind of a tourist trap.. But the lady that gave us the tour was very knowledgeable and very nice.. The documents inside are pretty cool, and the tour is cheap.. Wasn't overly exciting, but I can say i've been.. But this isn't for everybody, but we liked it..
Fantastic tour! Great info! Michelle was our guide, she was great! If you have time for only one tour do this one. Also went to james farm museum, is was interesting but just ok.
Save your $ for some other visit. Guide could not answer bank questions. Only 1 room artefacts from time frame but nothing outstanding. James not part of heist.
While Jesse was out reeking havoc somewhere else, Frank apparently decided to job the bank in Liberty. My cousins live within a few blocks so this is a must stop no matter how many times I have visited before.
I learned a lot of things, but it wasn't like a school day with boring things; very interesting. Great place for families
Forget those fancy new museums with push buttons and audio video crap. This is a historic site done in the old style and was fantastic. The tour guide, Michelle, really knew her stuff and made the story of the the first daylight bank robbery in US history come alive. Not to be missed and I wish more sites were like this one.
The museum is a little small but definitely worth the visit! The tour guide that my husband and I had was very informative. She knew the background very well and seemed like she loved telling people about it. You should bring a camera since you are allowed to take pictures if you'd like.
The museum is small but well worth visiting. I was able to see the bank Jesse James and his gang robbed. A tour guide provides some interesting information about the bank robbery. There is a clock that is stopped at the time of the robbery on the wall. A bag of heavy coins lays on the counter. The bank vault is open to see inside. An outfit was hanging as an example of what a banker would wear in those days. There is another room with photos, memorabelia, and much more to browse. A small gift shop is open for souvenirs.
