As a new location and new staff at museum, lots of improvements in the future. What they had displayed (all donations) was great and we had a personal tour of the museum, made for a very good visit, learned lots and enjoyed TONS !! Only thing I would like to see is more Navy as a military mom of 2 navy sailors, I can't get enough of Navy history
Same old group escorting everyone around. Totally disorganized. Poor quality of displays. Garbage piled up around building. Electical outlets, wires exposed. Don't waste your time in St. Joseph to see this. Go to Kansas City to see the WWI museum. That is wonderful.
Pretty disappointed in the lack of organization and how dirty it was. Looks like some of the lower-class military surplus stores in the backwoods. People staffing the place seemed to not care about much other than collecting admission, and knew little about any of the items on display, Other museums in town are much more professional.
Great place for the military buffs in your family. Staff is very knowledgeable, and the displays are very nice
Loved the artifacts. Please help keep this museum open by donating when you visit. Would have to see all this go to waste if it closes.
The NMHM is a hoarders hobby place. Mr. Frank Flesher passed away and left some beautiful old buildings in decay; clutter beyond imagination and questionable funding in support of this sacred trust. I would check with the St. Joseph Visitor's Bureau to see when you can visit, because as it stands, this place is a fire, health and building code hazard. Windows and doors are blocked or permanently sealed. Asbestos is in the walls and plumbing. The water and sewer systems are either blocked or rusting. The aircraft were in good shape once, but now are in decline. The financial support is questionable and the museum staff interested in reminising than improving decaying displays. Don't waste your time or money until these issues are solved.
The museum has a lot of displays, and are constantly adding new displays and my personal favorite thing is they have 2 huey helicopters. Good place to go with children to.
This one is worth it just for the building, which was designed by notorious drunkard and brilliant draftsman Harvey Ellis as the city's Central Police Station.
This is one of those places that is the dream of someone and they are making it come true. For that purpose alone, it deserves all the attendance it can get. On top of that, it is all about honoring the actions of our soldiers throughout the world and over decades of time. The currator personally showed us around and described uniforms, weaponry, battles, machinery, etc. from all the major wars of the 20th century. They are restoring a lot of rolling stock and creating new displays all the time. It took about an hour and was WELL worth it!
I was given an individual tour of The National Military Heritage Museum in St. Joseph, Missouri, on Friday 3 November 2006.Mr. Flesher is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and dedicated. His items are authentic or authentic replicas (of battle representations, for example), to the extent possible.I am a military veteran of 22 years service and am proud and honored to have been able to tour this museum. I am definitely passing the word!
