this is a very large state park between platte city and Kansas city. they have many picnic areas that are deep in the woods. but access is easy on paved roads. try to find the scenic river overlook wooden deck that is toward the west side of the park. it is near some trailheads. the view of the Missouri river valley is amazing. and the hiking trails are great.
The park has a trail system that allows you to see out over the bluffs. Good picture scenery during the fall months when the leaves are changing colors. If you are looking for a paved route that offers jogging, there is a quick 3 mile loop that will challenge even the seasoned runner. Great way to spend some time outdoors.
We have been to this park many times over the years. Great trails, overlooks, etc. Lot of history at this park.
To see how the entire state used to look 400 years ago, have a visit. I grew up inside of it. Then visit Weston and get drunk on the vendors selling "home" brew, home wine, and home 80 proof distillery. Or smoke the illegally grown home pot. Weston Hemp was a huge export for rope a century ago.
Beautiful overlook! I could look at the autumn-colored leaves for hours! There are a variety of trails to take here as well.
Had some nice trails, picnic areas. We were too late for the fall colors. Did see a few pretty trees. Nice view of the river. A nice relaxing walk on the different trails.
This used to be one of my favorite 'escape from the city destinations' since the small campsite was quiet and full of tent campers. We never had to make a reservation and didn’t have to listen to generators running all night. This time we were disappointed that there were loud RV's everywhere! The only spot left was the handicapped electric site which we had to pay full price to set up a tent and the electricity didn't even work. There were no official Missouri Park staff onsite, only the Host, who was not very helpful at all. To top it all off when we went to shower in the morning many of the “reserved” tent spots had not even been used. The old tobacco barn used to be a really neat place, now it is a joke. The educational signs are too faded to read and the barn is full of junk. Nothing like bringing my family to one of my favorite places only to continue saying “well last time I was here” or “when we used to come here” or “this place used to be so great.”I hope that they can restore the park to what it used to be and build a tent only camping area.
the park is very beautiful and a bit lacking on signage to the overlook. The staff was very friendly and accomodating
Not a large state park, but worth a trip. It has unpaved hiking trails that wind up and down many tree covered hills. There are a few trails that take you directly to the Missouri river. There is a trail along the bluff of the MO river that has beautiful views of the river and many sights where you can look across into Kansas. during the winter when the leaves are off you can see Leavenworth, KS.Lots of fall leaf colors to view. There are also paved bike paths as well as picnic, camping and playground areas. None of the trails are very long, but there is a lot of variety and a great place to spend an afternoon with the kids either biking or hiking. Easy drive from Kansas City. No entry fee.
Beautiful view of the area from the bluffs, and part of a fun day in Weston. Great overlook and little walkway.... There was more to see but we were limited on time.
Very pretty in the fall. Worth taking a short detour to drive through. There is tobacco barn (with an educational/information board), nice setting for campers, some nice trails (paved and unpaved) and above average outdoor toilet facilities. The best part for us was the short walk to a wonderful scenic view with a surround bench around a tree in the middle. Gorgeous color in the fall.
Take a day trip out of Kansas City to Weston and make this park one of your stops. There is a beautiful lookout area that overlooks the river and several paths are available for hiking. We visited on a beautiful, sunny Fall day and the changing of the leaves was breathtaking. I noticed that there is a campground area that looks clean and well taken care of. There are picnic tables scattered around the park and a day shelter.
After a note back from the ranger after my initial review, we went back and were pleasantly surprised by the park. Although I didn't think the trails were really well marked, we managed and had a great hike anyhow. We intend to go back again now that it's cooler or maybe even a winter hike.
Great, out-of-the-way state park. Secluded sites, well maintained. Close to Weston. Quiet. Will definitely return; should be beautiful in the fall.
We had 6 campsites with 8 couples. We really enjoyed the trails, the shady sites and the quality of the camping experience. Bath house was very clean and recent remodel was appreciated.
