Lived across the street for a while and got married there, so it has a special meaning. World class mosaics, great history, classic design. Acoustics are not great, but you can't have everything!
The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis is absolutely beautiful. 1.5 million mosaic tiles! The parking is easy, we parked on the street about 1 block away.. You can walk around and take pictures as long as there isn't any official church business going on. They also have guided tours. It is worth the trip.
Wow. The is a must see stop in St. Louis. 41.5 million mosaic tiles make this place unbelievable. We took our two kids (10 &7) and they spent quite a while setting and staring up. It led to some great conversation with them on the walk back to the hotel about churches and religion.
Beautiful, a must see on your trip. It's an old cathedral but the architecture and paintings are a must see.
You cannot miss this place once you are in St. Louis. It is very beautiful church with absolutely stunning mosaics. Highly recommended to visit.
Beautiful mosaics. It really rivals many of the cathedrals I have seen in Europe. Good, quirky tour guides if your interested. The museum below isn't much but perhaps worth the couple bucks.
Mosaic covered domes that tell a story, depicting Jesus, his twelve apostles, the Blessed Virgin and Last SupperThe Rose coloured stain glass windows and the many chapels each with their own theme..Truly an architect's dream as it brings to life a living God waiting to welcome us into Eternal glory.A must see
This is a BEAUTIFUL basilica and not to be missed if you have to come to St. Louis. Wonderful history, beautiful mosaics, very impressive. We had a scheduled tour and we were puzzled why the gift shop was not open
A Cathedral that is the equal of any in Europe. Regardless of your religious preference this is truly a work of art. There is a reason you will see architecture, art, and design students routinely walking in and around this building, it is hard to explain except you need to see it. The mosaic work is the finest example in any building anywhere in the world.
This is probably the most amazing structure I have ever been in and that includes several cathedrals that I've toured in Europe. The mosiac work is absolutely spectacular. I'm so happy we had some extra time and I thought to stop. Very nice tour. Don't miss it if you're in the area.
The interior is stunning with its mosaic art. When we arrive we joined a small group that was being guided by a priest, but the explanations were too directed to religious catechism and we left it. Worthy of a visit.
Simply a marvelous structure and one of those church's that rivals in some ways those of Europe. Incredible mosaics! Words don't describe the beauty or the amount of work that went into this Cathedral.
Until recently, the Basilica had the largest mosaic collection in the world (that title may belong to the Hatay Museum in Turkey now....not positive though). Regardless, the mosaics are breathtaking!! Not to mention works of art - some of them are Tiffany. There are free tours available most days, and they are very informative. The small garden to the west of the basilica is charming, but largely overshadowed by the mosaics inside.
This is a beautiful Cathedral! The mozaics that cover almost every area of the ceilings and columns are all works of art. It is an inspiring testament to the Catholic faith in St Louis. Phenomenal.
You can see the love in the craftsmanship of the cathedral. Every detail is colorful and breathtaking. Perfect for believers and non-believers alike just for the sheer detail of the tile work and artistry of the building. It is a must visit!
