First off, if you go with kids this place would be awesome, easily a 5 star. But after reading reviews and checking out the website it seemed like it would also be fun for adults. We walked in 8:30 on a friday night, and were met with 100 kids from 3rd grade to 8th grade running around screaming. It smelled like chuck-i-cheese. We walked around, went up 3 floors trying to find something that would be cool to do for an adult, couldn't find anything an left within 30 mins of arriving. The layout is confusing and there are no signs or maps. I think the idea is to run around and explore but we felt weird being there without kids. With kids this place would be great and I would highly recommend going here!
We stopped at the city museum because it was on the trolley route and it was raining. We expected just another city museum but we were completely blown away by the repurposed junk, the caves and displays, the fish, the mosaics, just the general sense of JOY that this museum evokes. If you find yourself with an afternoon to spare, don't miss this! (Oh, and by all means take the kids. I guarantee that they will never forget it!)
I loved this place. The phrase "ten-story slide" made me think of a modern, safe children's museum, but this has much more of a skewed Jules Verne/Tim Burton sensibility. We were the first people there and it felt like we'd stumbled into the Phantom of the Opera's secret lair. The magic dissipated a bit as it got more crowded, but there were always more random corners to explore -- like the exhibit of porcelain doll parts and absinthe spoons dug up from 19th-century outhouses.
Ever-expanding playground of wonder that ignites kids imaginations and has plenty for parents, as well. The legacy of founder Bob Casilly lives on in all his creations, as well as the touchable art of those he mentored and inspired who continue his vision.
This place is amazing and there are special experiences around every corner at every level. I would caution you to keep little ones close to you because there are many many places to slip away and finding eachother may be an issue. I think the museum fee is a bit pricey, but it has not stopped me from visiting several times. It's better to go on a dry day so you can enjoy the outdoor rooftop playground.
We visited during a cross country road trip. What I thought was going to be a brief diversion turned into the highlight if our trip. There are fantastic photo ops in every nook and cranny of this one of a kind experience. My 7 yr old and toddler were agog with Amazement all day. There is something for everyone. The only suggestion we have isn't try and add more places for families to sit and eat. We'll make the trip back again to see how the museum evolves.
Went here for our "family day picnic" for work. I think I definitely had more fun that my 5 year old cousins!! If you're young at heart and aren't afraid to crawl through small, dark spaces, then this is a great family day for you and the kiddos
Love this place- great views from up high- very fun for all ages . Everyone in our group laughed and had fun
The history museum was a wonderful experience. My 10 and 13 year old enjoyed being able to relate what they learned at school through a hands on experience. Their display and historical facts of the Louisiana Purchase was priceless. The city museum best of all, is free admission.
This place is amazing for adults and children. So much to see and some of it quite bizarre. Highly recommend for a fun family or date night out.
Magical wonderland for adults and children... I will be back several times before I depart this area!
