Such a wonderful gift from Ewing and Muriel! This is open all year till dusk, since there is a small indoor conservatory. I have been here in all 4 seasons, each year more beautiful. Senior and prom and wedding photos are often seen here on weekends. Kids especially enjoy the surprise fountain in the shade garden. A great spot for a first date or to walk around with your family after dinner. My favorite time is to go there on Easter or Mothers Day, the new spring flowers are gorgeous...new colors every season!
These memorial gardens have their own ambience and charm, unique in Kansas City. Go early in the morning when you're likely to have it all to yourself, and after you've done a meditation walk through the outdoor gardens, go into the enclosed building and enjoy the orchids and the warm, steamy air as you sit on a bench and do some more meditating. These gardens are maintained meticulously and are free. Stop here often if you want a place just to relax and think for awhile, or not think at all.
It really is pretty but small and don't plan on much more than 30 minutes. It you are nearby worth a stop but would not go out of the way like I did.
A walk through the Kauffman gardens every season is a delight. The winter/holiday displays, the spring plantings, the summer flowers and the fall colors are fabulous. There is usually someone around to talk about a plant you want to add to your garden. But it is just enough to absorb the surroundings.
We had our wedding pictures taken here and I have been back since just to enjoy the garden. So peaceful and beautiful. Most other botanical gardens have an admission fee, but not here. Great for a lunch time walk.
This public walled garden has enough niches and micro-climates for half a dozen display spaces. In Winter you can enjoy the forms of the grasses and shrubbery, complemented by a central greenhouse filled with palms, bromeliads and other tropicals. In Spring we have the usual riot of bulbs and flowering shrubs. Summer brings the full on bloomers, vinery, and the welcome sprays of fountains. My recent visit was in October, and the bees were still busy with late asters. Brilliant displays of annuals keep the perennials good company,
This garden is a wonderfully tranquil spot in the middle of a busy city setting. After spending an afternoon at the Nelson Atkins, this is a great spot to relax and reflect.
I've visited in February and in June, both visits were enjoyable. Take a walk through the park too, what a lovely area of Kansas City.
This is a wonderful place to walk through. I enjoy how the gardens are set up. There are places to sit and reflect as most of it is a memorial to these wonderful Kansas City people.
Free of charge!!This beautiful garden is tucked away near the Country Club Plaza with ample free parking. There is a climate controlled atrium with orchids and palms. In the winter it is a great escape to find lush greens. Recently, the wedding party I was in took some amazing pictures. There photogenic stone walls, arches, and a rectangular fountain with statues. Highly recommended for year round visits.
We ate lunch at Gates and decided to fallow the river walk a little ways. And ended up at rhe garden. We walked on the sidewalk to the garden and the smell was beautiful. Getting in the garden was easy lots of things to see and the fountains were so nice. We got through the garden in about 30 min but could have totally set there for a while in their numorous setting areas with my guy and a cup of coffee.
The gardens are absolutely stunning and free to the public. I am not a garden enthusiast but enjoyed the gardens none-the-less.
a private garden experience in the midst of a city.. the fountains play tricks.. and the flowers are meticulously arranged - very restful
I always tell people that they should stop and take a 10 minute walk through the garden. It is a beautifully kept garden and I find many plant species that will grow in my garden as well. It is a little slice of heaven in the middle of the city.
To think that someone paid to create a space for everyone to enjoy for free is an unthinkable generosity. I am not a garden lover but this space is so peaceful and tranquil, to wander the gardens or just sit and contemplate the day. The garden displays are beautiful.
