i took my wife there for our anniversary .she had no idea we were going there . she makes aprons herself. she was so excited when we pulled up. the terry's were so nice they came and opened up for us and were just so accommodating, we so enjoyed our visit there and it was so interesting to me also. what a great piece of Americana that needs to be treasured while we hav it.
Very interesting place, as well as a gift shop. The owner is very knowledgable, and loves to talk with visitors. Really enjoyed this small but inviting place!
The Apron Museum is located in an old storefront in the sleepy southern town of Iuka. The proprietress is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about aprons that it's contagious! There are old aprons, new aprons, books about aprons and some related antiques. The aprons provide a timeline of women's roles and the sociological aspects of aprons are fascinating. Who knew! You won't regret a visit to this small town or it's unique museum.
The Apron Museum has historic aprons on display from the Civil War and kitschy ones from the 50s. There's a culture about aprons - the ones you wore for work and the ones you changed into to look pretty but represent the work that as done. I had no idea. There are hundreds on display, more crushed together for a scavenger hunt on racks, and new ones for sale made in the design of the vintage. The best part was hearing the stories from the owner. She has a passion for aprons and it made me passionate about this everyday item, too.
