Stayed 2 nights in a cabin which was very nice. Beautiful water view but beds were uncomfortable.Check in was easy but would have appreciated a little more info on the park, like a map of the park and info on what was available to do there.
First off, the park is beautiful! The lake isn't clear, but it doesn't feel dirty. The problem I have is that the beach at the swimming area seems to always have A LOT of dog poop on it. Apparently, people let their dogs potty there. And, I have seen a few baby diapers laying on the beach as well. I haven't been back since then. If those issues were taken care of, then the park's rating would go up to 5 for me.
Go hiking, swimming, fishing, or just spend the day admiring the nature of southern MS. It is clean, quiet, and fun state park.
The water park is awesome. I love spending 4th of July there! They have great little cabins to rent, or you can bring your RV and hook up. It's a great place for family reunions, birthday party's...
We stayed here overnight while passing through. It was out of the way (about 7 miles from 98) for one night but we hoped it would be quiet. It was for the most part but weirdly we could hear traffic noise from somewhere (maybe 49?) mainly early in the morning. Once you enter the park, it's a good 5 minute drive to get to the campground. You cross over a couple short bridges/spillways before getting to the office on the right. The pull thru we opted for was long enough but narrow. It had 2 consecutive concrete pads as if one was added at a later time. We were able to get our satellite to work without a problem. They have an unusual assortment of rental "cabins". Some are brick and appear older while others have very colorful siding like yellow and blue. I imagine the lake is the big draw. BTW - one of the clerks recommended that we leave the back way which is shorter mileage-wise. Beware - very tight clearance at the guard gate for large units. We saw evidence that it had been hit a couple times. Also, the roads are extremely narrow with little to no shoulder. Unless you are in a hurry, going out the front entrance is a better idea.
A really lovely park with paved roads, pavilions, pretty lake and very clean well maintained restrooms
What a Beautiful Park, so well maintained. Plenty of activities, swimming, canoeing, fishing, etc. We rented a cabin for this visit. Super Friendly staff at check in...very pleasant and helpful. Reasonably priced and comfortable. Dishes, pots, microwave, coffee pot, towels, sheets & pillows all provided. Also Cable TV but who wants to spend time inside when the grounds were so picturesque. Picnic Table and Barbecue pit on the Patio. Gorgeous view of the Lake. Cabins could have been a little cleaner, soap scum in shower, carpets needed to be vacuumed, and I wish there would have been a broom available but on a whole not the worst I've ever seen! I'd rate it a 6 of 10. The pavilion was a nice place for the rest of our group to gather for meals and game night, picnic tables, lighting and electrical plugs accessible, enough to accommodate our entire crew (17). Great Weekend - Trip Enjoyed by All!**One other thing I reported before we left and I hope the maintenance crew addressed it...In Cabin 11 the Water Heater was set too HOT so be careful not to scald yourself when washing dishes or taking a shower.
Nice campground, quite large. Large Geiger Lake for fishing and boating. Nice showers and washer/dryers. Great 2 day stay.
We have stayed here about three times now and have another trip already on the calendar for next year. This campground is very neat and clean, very kid friendly, great place for a group trip with friends. Nice bath houses.
For clarification, I am only rating the campground as it relates to RV and Trailer camping. No consideration is given for other aspects of a campground/park, such as swimming pools, clubhouses, or activities such as fishing or canoeing. Also, many campgrounds may have a variety of quality. My assessment is base on what I perceive as the best they have to offer. I use a two part rating system. The first is based on the basic elements that most campgrounds provide. The value for each of the items is fixed. This puts all campground on the same level based on what they provide. The second and final rating is based on another set of fixed values for things that I think should be part on any quality campground such as good maintenance and cleanliness. I then add a fudge factor just based on my opinion of the value and aesthetics of the campground. Occasionally I will throw in a note to explain my evaluation. Most any campground can earn at least a basic 5.0 rating. For me an acceptable campground for a multiple night stay will have to have a final rating of 7.0 or above. Very few campgrounds will go over a 9.0 with 10 being the max. On Trip advisor a 6.5 to 7.4 is equivalent to 3 circles, four circles will be 7.5 to 8.4 and 5 circles are above will be 8.5 and above.Paul B. Johnson 319 Geiger Lake Road Hattiesburg, MS There are 125 campsites with 30/50 electric, water and sewer hookups. Maximum RV length = check before bookingCampground Basic evaluation: 8.1The road to the campsites and the sites are paved. There are in four sections. The back three sections are older. The paved parts of the sites are fairly narrow but usable. They vary in length so you need to check length before booking a site. A lot of them are not very level. They all have grills/fire rings and picnic table. Sections 2 and 3 have two and one comfort station with laundry facilities respectively. The front most and rear section do not have a comfort station. The comfort stations are little dated but are clean and usable and two of them have laundry facilities. The front section near the Marina is newer and is all pull through sites. They do not have gills/fire rings and picnic tables but there is a pavilion. The sites are side by side and looked to be for over niters and people primarily using the boat launch. We camped here in a 30 ft. travel trailer for one night in July of 2014.Secondary rating evaluation: No points added.Comment: I liked this park, but I think they need to level and update the site pads in the older sections. The pulls through sites are very convenient for those just staying over night. There are additional bathroom facilities available at ranger station during the hours they are open.
Very great customer service all around.Super clean park and lots to see.We stayed in a cabin and had plenty of room with beautiful views. Can't wait to go back.
We spent one night at this campground, in our tent and it was great! Our spot was in loop 1. The bathrooms were very clean and the site had a nice grill and table. We would highly recommend this state park to everyone!
Love this park, gorgeous, lake is amazing except no biting fish today but that was due to the rain, great disc golf, sights are beautiful and for the money, you cannot beat it. Everything is very clean! Now let's discuss the downside. Our cottage was cute, huge and all new. It comes with no linens, those are extra, no pots, 4 dishes and literally the absolutely worst mattress on the planet. I am typing this at 3:30 am because I couldn't stand to lay on it one more minute. I don't know why state parks everywhere do this, we ran for 10-11 hours today with the kids, had a great dinner at Cotton Blues but now I cannot sleep.
This state park was among the nicest I have been to. There is a large campground on the premises, along with cabins and cottages for rent. There is a disc golf course and a splash pad for kids. Fishing and boating is allowed on the large lake. There is a roadway that passes through the end of the lake where water is spilling over onto the roadway as it continues down the spillway. It is a really freaky experience! The cost was only $3 (on your honor).
Great inexpensive weekend , great place we took some food from the pantry and Built a fire and pitched a tent for the total cost of $15 a night for the whole family , got in some Nature and Fun Time Adventure Bums ApprovedGet off the Path
