I am always interested in war memorials, but this place doesn't offer much. The architect/structure is decent, but nothing going out of the way for. There is no information/plaques to read, so save your time and go elsewhere.
There are a handful of reasons for visiting this memorial: 1) if you are in general interested in how events are memorialized. This is done in the Art Deco style and even though I did not see a specific date I assume that this was originally constructed as a World War I Memorial. There were only a few events on the doors that pointed to post-WWI events. The inscription at the top of the interior walls of the entrance courtyard are very biblical in tone. I have no problem with this, but simply point it out to note the changes in wording over time. I dobut very seriously that this wording would pass the muster today 2) If you are visiting the old capitol museum. This is right next door, takes about 15 minutes to really go through and take in, and it is free. Don't bother going up to the second and third floors as this is simply office space for different military related organizations.
If you have visited the old capitol building, then this is a great side trip cause it is right next door. I didnt go inside as i was limited on time. But the outside and inner courtyard are beautiful Worth a quick visit.
What a beautiful monument. It gave me goosebumps reading the inscriptions. And that was only outside. We couldn't go in as the place was closed. Don't forget to see the "Thank you train" down the hill in the back.
