We went to Jackson for a wedding and had a few hours of down time. We hear this museum was celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday. As a kindergarten teacher and mommy, I loved that! They had amazing activities and were very organized and friendly. We even got to take a family picture with The Cat in the Hat. My litte girl left her artwork there and started crying on the way home when she realized it. I called the museum and a sweet lady named Cynthia took time to go find her painting and mail it to us!! Great Place with Great People!!
I visited the museum with my son and grandson (almost 2). The collection is housed in a beautiful building with glass covering almost all of one side. It's on a lovely property with lots of walking trails. The staff was courteous, pleasant and helpful. We went on a Monday and had almost the entire building to ourselves. My grandson was most interested in the huge fish tanks and the preschool area. It's reasonably priced as well. What's not to like? I'd like to go back again when I can take the time to look at all the exhibits.
Another great place in the Jackson area to take your kids to play and have some fun. Storytime for the toddlers is a big hit with our daughter. Some of the exhibits change out during the year which is nice as it gives us an excuse to go again and have an entirely different subject matter to entertain.
Our family loves this museum! It is fun and educational for the children. We go a couple of times a year and enjoy it every time we go.
It was very informative. We learned a lot from the nature exhibits and the Gross exhibit was awesome!!
Every time I pass through Jackson for night my kids DEMAND to go here. They absolutely love the place. There are a number of fossils and the habitats for the live animals are just great. They have fish, snakes and gators. There are also interactive activities for kids and school groups are always welcome here. You can spend several hours here and not even realize it.
What a great place to go to learn about the natural science of our state and region. We always enjoy our time there. Their changing exhibits give our citizens to learn more and more about flora and fauna of our state.
it's the best pkace to spend a day its a combo small things 1. small museum 2 small aquarium 3 indoor games for children 4 nice jungle for long walk
I'm not much for natural history museums; but had some time so stopped in. Most of the exhibits are on a long divided corridor. One size is the standard museum-style stuff but on the other are some fine recreated environments highlighting various Mississippi water and land ecosystems. There are a series of aquariums with very, very natural settings and across from them exhibits representing mammal settings. The museum works hard to keep children interested. Right now there is a "grassology" exhibit, definitely designed for kids.Nice place.
I myself manage a state park and have worked in others that housed museums; this museum is exceptional! There is no doubt that it sees many school children yet its bathrooms were impeccable and the museum itself was very well maintained. Kudos to the maintenance staff. What a wonderful and relaxing experience. We visited on a Wednesday afternoon in September. Visitation that day was light; they don't charge enough for this place! Well worth the $6.00 and the time to visit. We will go back in the Spring to take advantage of the trail system associated with the complex.
Our children (4, and 7) had a wonderful time at the museum!!! Fun and lots to do! Also, in a very safe part of town.
We took our 2 kids, a boy (age 12) and a girl (age 7), and their grandparents to the Museum of Natural Science on a Saturday afternoon. Parking was free (even though there is a parking booth) and admission was $6 for adults and $4 for our kids. Their grandparents got a senior rate of $5. The parking fee is for people who do not want to actually enter the museum, but are just accessing LeFleur's Bluff State Park. We attended a 45 minute show in the theater where a scientist/author had an interactive presentation with the all kids. She was a great speaker, and we all learned something and laughed. I would call the museum to see what shows are playing when you plan to visit. After the show, we walked down the stairs to the main level. We saw the Grossology exhibit, which discussed aspects of science that relate to all kinds of animal bodily fluids and functions. This exhibit will be on display until December 30.Several volunteers were on hand to show the kids more interactive exhibits. We also visited the aquarium where there were multiple tanks of Mississippi fish, turtles, alligators, and snakes. There was another section of the museum that had a large skeleton of a saber toothed cat, microscopes to look at leaves and bugs, and displays about Mississippi's trees, bugs, deer, bears, and birds. At the rear of the exhibit there are doors to exit outside and walk along the trails. Some of the trails are paved, but most are gravel. We didn't get to explore them on this trip since it was raining. We went back up the stairs to exit and visit the gift shop. It had reasonable prices on toys and knickknacks. There were food trucks outside the museum, but I'm not sure they are there all the time. It is probably best to bring a snack for small kids and plan on eating at a restaurant before or after your museum visit. Both the adults and the kids had fun! I will return when they bring in a new exhibit!
It has some great exhibits for a relatively small science museum. It is definitely worth the very reasonable entry fee. In fact, I'd like to return in the near future to spend more time at some of the exhibits my kids rushed through. Both (7 and 11) really enjoyed it but they wanted to spend all their time at the visiting Animal Grossology exhibit. They liked the Children's Museum a bit more, but it was also more expensive.
We love this museum. The aquariums are mesmerizing! The exhibits were nice and informative. My boys thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We took advantage of the cool summer weather and walked on the trails. What a great place. We bought an annual pass so we can return in the near future.
It's really good place for children who likes all animals. You spend here mamy time :-) with your family. It's not expensive .
