Awesome display of your quaint history. Stopping in only a few of the buildings was not enough! We will return to finish off our journey next year (more during the summer though). A lovely museum!
This is a very personal and emotional museum & collection of buildings. My favourite part was Dodds Hat Studio, which shows a fabulous movie about the fact that by 1800 Danbury was producing more hats than any place else in the US and by 1887, 30 factories were manufacturing five million hats a year. Known as "The Hat Capital of the World," their motto was "Danbury crowns them all."They also have the famous operatic singer, Marian Andersons', studio on the property - she lived in Danbury for 40 years - with an exhibit of her performing clothes.
Small in size but big on history. They have rotating historical presentations about the history of "The Hat City". Highly recommend keeping an eye out for happenings there and stopping by!
7 buildings comprise the museum. 1785 farmhouse, 1790 hat shop, Charles Ives birthplace, Marian Anderson's Studio. Call ahead for hours of tours and also for current information on a wide variety of activities throughout the year.
Very helpful staff fir doing research , extensive history of The city of Danbury. For all ages , worth the visit
This is truly an interesting time to go back in your mind and remember when things were and appreciate the history of the Danbury,Connecticut area. If you like trains and old fashioned things then this place will tickle your fancy and it's quite an education as you will learn things about the area that you've never known. Enjoy!
We visited last year for the 'History of Woman's Hats' and toured the Museum in the Streets. There's a lovely garden behind the museum, among the various out buildings on the property. There's a small gift shop area, featuring Danburite- a gemstone first found in... you guessed it: Danbury! This is a great place to visit, allow an afternoon so you can take the walking tour of downtown.
We went for the hat workshops and made lovely creations. It was fun.
This is where to go. From the founding, through the US Revolution on to it's "Hat City" days. The museum is not large but packs a lot of history.
A wonderfull place to go and get a feel for the area's rich history
I learned so many things about this place that I never knew. I'm really impressed. Nice place to visit.
O centro histórico tem a Igreja de Saint Thomas muito bonita, a casa dos primeiros imigrantes, a praça onde esta escrita a história de Danbury , o primeiro cemitério e bem bonito e interessante
