With beautiful architecture on an equally beautiful spot on the Connecticut River, I cannot think of a more perfect outing for theater. Being able to bring my young kids to one of my favorite spots in Connecticut for the Jim Henson's Emmet Otter production is definitely a cherished memory. I was fortunate enough to have attended several productions throughout my childhood with my parents as well. My wife and I saw a production of "Babes in Arms" there a number of years ago and the actress who played Billie belted out "The Lady is a Tramp" which I think was the best rendition I have ever heard. Obviously tastes may differ with respect to the various productions at any given time, but this venue is a timeless classic and an intimate performance setting that absolutely should be experienced at least once.
My wife and I went to see Holiday Inn at Goodspeed in December of 2014. All the cast members were outstanding, and we were entertained throughout the entire show. The sets, props, and costumes were beautiful. There were so many added bonuses during our time there, including the bar that they have behind the main staircase looking over the Connecticut River. You can get your drinks before the show, or you can preorder your intermission drinks so that they'll be ready for you in the lobby, or if you're lucky, on the balcony right outside. Near the bar are the restrooms and the candy bar/gift shop. The staff could not be more helpful. Can't wait for 2015 season!
We went to the Goodspeed Opera House to see "Holiday Inn", it was a great performance. We sat in the upper mezzanine, not really any bad seats in the place. They do tell you that the elevator does not go up to the third floor where the upper mezzanine is, only to the second floor at orchestra level seating. There are no rest rooms on the third floor, they are on the first (lobby level) and second (orchestra level). Seating is a little tight, but manageable, becomes a bit of a problem when someone in the middle of the row needs to leave for a restroom visit (there is a 15 minute intermission for that purpose if you can hold out). There is a quaint bar with a picturesque view of the river toward the rear of the Opera House. We will definitely plan another visit to see one of the performances scheduled in 2015.
We just had the opportunity to catch the 12/18 matinee of Holiday Inn.The entire cast is very talented ,both singing and dancing ,and the actors filling the Bing/Fred roles were spot on.We also greatly enjoyed the talented actress filling the role as the handy woman Louise. She had the entire audience in stitches a number of times. It's too bad the run is concluding soon,we'd be tempted to return! Thanks to all the actors and actresses as well as the entire supporting team for providing us a wonderful 2.5 hour escape and an enjoyable kick off to the holidays.
I took 55 Senior adults to one of there matinee performances of the Musical "Holiday Inn" The theater is small and intimate. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I worked with Matt in group sales and he was more then accommodating to our needs. The cast is very talented. With singing, dancing, acting that could be compared to going to a Broadway show. Also great costumes. I may try to go back to see it again before it finishs.
Watch the musical Holiday Inn with all of Berlin's music. Adapted from the movie with Astaire and Bing Crosby. It was really great fun. All of the actors and actresses were so talented. One has to see the tap dancing while jumping rope.
We recently saw Holiday Inn at the Goodspeed. It was a great production that included a wonderful cast, excellent music and songs. The show has been extended a number of times so if you can, purchase tickets and enjoy.
Hello My wife and I went and saw Holiday Inn at the Goodspeed and I have to agree that it was a wonderful show. Very upbeat and talented cast. If you have the chance it is well worth it.
If you have never seen a show at the Goodspeed, it is impossible to explain what a thrill and delight the productions are. Coming from New York (and Broadway) we thought that the Goodspeed might be an "out of town" rehearsal for "the big time" but soon learned that the Goodspeed is The Big Time! The quality of the performances, the enchantment of the theater, the enthusiasm of the performers all combine to make these shows "magical". And we have been going to the Goodspeed for the last twenty years!! Great Entertainment Value!
Marvelous dances, Irving Berlin songs, terrific cast, and the schedule is extended through December 21st. Get tickets while you can for the world premiere of this good old-fashioned musical.
This is an amazing place, great shows, on the river, right next to it is the Gelston house restaurant. Wonderful.
Holiday Inn was fabulous. What a great way to spend 2 1/2 hours! Lots of singing and energetic dancing with a number of familiar tunes. We have been here many times over the years and have never come away disappointed. If you can't climb stairs, arrive in plenty of time as the elevator capacity is limited. Holiday Inn is now extended to Dec 21, so don't miss it!
My wife and I enjoyed Holiday Inn production here last week, and it compares very well to NYC Broadway. The setting is charming and intimate. We had a great time, and we hope to return for more performances. This spot is a gem in rural CT
We saw the musical "Holiday Inn" which is playing there through Nov., 2014. The acting was great in such a small town theater located on the banks of the Connecticut River in East Haddam, CT. This theater has actually exported 19 original productions to Broadway, most famously Annie, Man of La Mancha and Shenandoah. The building itself dates back to 1876 and served many different functions until being fully restored in 1963 to its original splendor as a theater.
The musical Holiday Inn was absolutely delightful and entertaining. Another fantastic evening at The Goodspeed Opera House. We were thoroughly entertained and continue to enjoy our season tickets for the 15th year. Thank you to all who make these productions so great!!!
