the basket shop

This old fashioned shop has been around for many years and is filled with all kinds of different styles of baskets both made in the USA and overseas. Prices range from modest to expensive. Amidst the array of baskets, you'll see hand dipped candles, a variety of gifts that do change throughout the year with the holidays, so it is always worth checking back in - and don't forget its sister shop: The Carriage Barn, which is next door.Inside The Carriage Barn are all sorts of items for the home, from handmade throws, to painted floor mats, hooked rugs, rag rugs, placemats, unusual and lovely candles, lampshades, hand milled soaps, lamps, furniture and more! Just walking in the door is worth the experience to feel the calm and see the beauty of this old remodeled barn - and its surroundings. Be sure to ask Carol or Reed Hotchkiss (the owners) about the history of both shops, how the barn came to be there, etc...and maybe Carol will show you her garden off the deck. A great place to buy things to furnish your home, pick up a gift and enjoy a quiet spot on the scenic part of route 7 going to or from the northwest corner of Connecticut or the Berkshires. Always interesting to stop by and see what's happening...and in the winter, you'll often find something hot to drink being offered in the Carriage Barn.
